Why?
Hello Doctor: Recently, while doing laundry, I found a group of small ants on my underwear.
I'm concerned that this might be related to glycosuria, so I searched for information in the diabetes Q&A section.
One doctor explained that vaginal secretions could also attract ants.
I have noticed some discharge on my underwear lately, which has a slight odor but also a somewhat pleasant scent.
I placed a tissue used to wipe urine together with the underwear, and then I noticed the presence of ants on the underwear.
Why is this happening? How should I handle this situation? Is it due to the urine or the discharge? Wishing you peace and joy.

Hello Miss: The discharge on your underwear, aside from vaginal secretions, is mostly due to the secretion from the body's (genital) sweat glands and sebaceous glands, or it may be remnants of urine.
All of these can be potential "attractants" for ants.
However, regardless of the source, it is related to personal hygiene habits.
As long as you maintain dryness, wash your underwear in hot water, drink plenty of water, and avoid holding in urine, the problem will naturally be resolved! Wishing you a fresh and comfortable day!

More Info
Ants are often attracted to various substances, including food residues, sugary substances, and even certain bodily fluids. In your case, the presence of ants on your underwear could be due to a combination of factors, including urine and vaginal discharge.
When it comes to diabetes, one of the classic symptoms is the presence of glucose in the urine, known as glucosuria. This occurs when blood sugar levels are elevated beyond the renal threshold, causing the kidneys to excrete excess glucose into the urine. Ants, particularly sugar ants, are attracted to sweet substances, so if there is glucose in your urine, it could indeed attract them. However, you mentioned that your blood sugar levels have been normal in the past, which is a positive sign.
Vaginal discharge can also attract ants, especially if it has a sweet or unusual odor. Normal vaginal discharge is typically clear or milky and may have a slight odor, but any significant change in color, consistency, or smell could indicate an infection or other medical issue. The presence of a "slightly fragrant" discharge, as you described, could be normal, but if it has an unusual odor or is accompanied by other symptoms (such as itching, burning, or irritation), it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
To address your concerns, here are some steps you can take:
1. Maintain Hygiene: Ensure that you maintain good personal hygiene. Regularly washing your underwear and keeping your genital area clean can help reduce the likelihood of attracting ants or any other pests.
2. Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye on any changes in your vaginal discharge. If you notice any significant changes in color, consistency, or odor, or if you experience discomfort, it would be advisable to see a healthcare provider.
3. Check for Glucosuria: If you are concerned about diabetes, especially given your family history, it may be beneficial to have your blood sugar levels checked again. You can also ask your doctor for a urine test to check for glucose and ketones.
4. Consult a Doctor: If the issue persists or if you have any other symptoms that concern you, such as increased thirst, frequent urination, or unexplained weight loss, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional. They can provide a thorough evaluation and determine if there are any underlying health issues that need to be addressed.
In summary, while ants may be attracted to your underwear due to urine or vaginal discharge, it is essential to consider the broader context of your health. Regular monitoring of your symptoms and maintaining good hygiene practices can help mitigate these issues. If you have ongoing concerns about diabetes or any other health conditions, seeking medical advice is always the best course of action.
