Acne scars can develop new acne?
Hello, Doctor: I would like to ask you about a pimple that appeared in the middle of my upper lip about a year ago.
It became swollen and felt burning.
At first, I only used over-the-counter ointments, but it continued to swell and worsen.
I consulted a dermatologist and used prescribed medication, but it was ineffective.
After the pimple subsided, it left a scar, and before long, another pimple would form in the same spot, creating a cycle of recurrence.
Recently, I visited another doctor who suggested injecting an anti-inflammatory medication into that area.
The pain made me tear up, and it ended up swelling for an even longer time, causing a nearby small pimple to enlarge as well (the small pimple had never enlarged before).
I am unsure what the issue is.
In the summer, my face often feels prickly and itchy (sometimes even my body), and I wonder if this is related to my allergic conjunctivitis (though my tests do not indicate any allergies).
Additionally, my eye allergies keep recurring, causing significant itching that affects my daily life, and my dark circles are so severe they are alarming.
The upper eyelid of my left eye has developed a small pimple, which the dermatologist said is a stye and will resolve on its own, but it has been a long time, and it is still there.
I am hesitant to use skincare products or sunscreen when going out.
What should I do? I would greatly appreciate your guidance.
Thank you very much.

Recurrent acne may sometimes require oral medication for a period of time to achieve optimal control.
Facial itching can occasionally be due to issues with the skin's basic physiological functions, such as its moisturizing ability and pH balance.
The simplest method for treating milia is to extract them.
Wishing you well.

Acne scars can be a persistent and frustrating issue for many individuals, particularly when they recur in the same area. Your experience with recurring acne in the same location, along with the development of scars, suggests a few underlying factors that may be contributing to this cycle. Let's break down the potential reasons for your skin issues and explore some strategies for management.
Understanding Recurring Acne and Scarring
1. Inflammation and Infection: The initial acne lesion you described as swollen and burning likely indicates an inflammatory response. If not treated effectively, this inflammation can lead to scarring. When a pimple resolves, the skin may not heal properly, leading to a scar that can become a site for future breakouts.
2. Skin Type and Sensitivity: Some individuals have skin that is more prone to acne due to factors such as oiliness, hormonal fluctuations, or even genetic predisposition. If your skin is sensitive or reactive, it may respond poorly to certain treatments, leading to further irritation and the potential for new acne lesions.
3. Allergic Reactions: You mentioned experiencing itching and stinging during the summer, which could be indicative of an allergic reaction or sensitivity to environmental factors. Allergic conjunctivitis can exacerbate skin issues, particularly if you are rubbing your eyes or face frequently due to discomfort.
4. Treatment Side Effects: The use of topical medications, especially those containing strong active ingredients, can sometimes lead to skin irritation or thinning. If you have been using topical steroids or other potent treatments, this could contribute to skin fragility and increased susceptibility to acne.
Recommendations for Management
1. Consult a Dermatologist: Given the complexity of your symptoms, it is crucial to work closely with a dermatologist. They can assess your skin condition more thoroughly and may recommend a tailored treatment plan that could include prescription medications, topical treatments, or even procedures like chemical peels or laser therapy to address scarring.
2. Avoid Irritating Products: If you suspect that certain skincare products are exacerbating your condition, it may be wise to simplify your routine. Look for non-comedogenic, fragrance-free products that are designed for sensitive skin. Avoid products with alcohol or harsh exfoliants that can further irritate your skin.
3. Hydration and Moisturization: Keeping your skin well-hydrated is essential, especially if you are experiencing dryness or peeling. Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer that can help restore the skin barrier without clogging pores.
4. Sun Protection: Even if you are hesitant to use sunscreen due to your skin's sensitivity, it is vital to protect your skin from UV damage, which can worsen scarring. Look for mineral-based sunscreens that are less likely to irritate sensitive skin.
5. Consider Anti-Inflammatory Treatments: If your acne is inflammatory, topical treatments containing ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid may help. However, these should be introduced gradually to monitor for any adverse reactions.
6. Addressing Allergies: If you suspect that your skin issues are related to allergies, consider consulting an allergist. They can perform tests to identify specific allergens and help you manage your symptoms more effectively.
7. Lifestyle Modifications: Stress management, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep can all play a role in skin health. Consider incorporating stress-reducing activities such as yoga or meditation into your routine.
Conclusion
Recurring acne and scarring can be a multifaceted issue, often requiring a comprehensive approach to treatment. By working closely with a dermatologist and making informed choices about your skincare routine, you can improve your skin's condition and reduce the likelihood of future breakouts. Remember, patience is key, as skin healing can take time. If you continue to experience issues, don't hesitate to seek further medical advice to explore additional treatment options.
