Why does semen appear yellowish?
I have noticed that since April of this year, the semen I ejaculate has a slightly yellowish tint, although sometimes it appears white.
Previously, the only time it would look yellowish was after a long period without ejaculation, while it was normally a healthy white color.
In April, I felt some discomfort in my testicles, and the semen was also a bit yellow.
I visited Chimei Hospital, and the doctor said it was due to sitting for too long, which compresses the nerves, and that my irregular sitting habits were the cause.
I mentioned the yellowish tint of my semen, and he said not everyone has white semen and that I shouldn't worry.
He advised me to return to a normal lifestyle without the need for medication.
Currently, I have no discomfort in my testicles, but the semen is still slightly yellow.
I usually drink plenty of water and beverages, so I urinate frequently.
Could this also have an effect? I typically go to bed around 3 or 4 AM and masturbate about 2 to 3 times a week.
Could it really be due to staying up late and irregular sitting habits? Thank you for your response.

Normal semen volume is approximately 2-6 cc, with a viscous consistency and a color that ranges from clear to milky white, and sometimes slightly yellow, especially after a prolonged period without ejaculation, which may result in increased volume and a light yellow tint.
Therefore, this is normal.
However, if you are still feeling anxious, it would be advisable to visit a urology clinic for a semen analysis to put your mind at ease.

More Info
The yellowish tint of semen can be concerning for many individuals, and it’s understandable to seek clarity on this matter. While I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis without a physical examination, I can offer some insights into potential causes and considerations regarding the yellow coloration of semen.
Firstly, it’s important to note that the color of semen can vary from person to person and can change based on several factors, including hydration levels, diet, and frequency of ejaculation. Semen is typically a whitish-gray color, but it can appear yellowish for various reasons.
1. Dehydration: One of the most common reasons for a change in semen color is dehydration. When the body is dehydrated, the concentration of substances in the semen can increase, leading to a more yellow appearance. Since you mentioned that you drink a lot of water, it’s essential to ensure that you are adequately hydrated throughout the day.
2. Diet: Certain foods can also affect the color of semen. For instance, foods rich in sulfur, such as garlic and onions, or those high in carotenoids, like carrots, can impart a yellowish hue. If you have made any recent changes to your diet, this could be a contributing factor.
3. Frequency of Ejaculation: The frequency of ejaculation can influence the color and consistency of semen. If you are ejaculating less frequently, the semen may appear more concentrated and potentially yellowish. Conversely, more frequent ejaculation can lead to a more diluted and whiter appearance.
4. Infection or Inflammation: While your doctor has indicated that your symptoms may be related to prolonged sitting and nerve compression, it’s also worth considering that infections or inflammation in the reproductive system can lead to changes in semen color. Conditions such as prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate) or epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) can cause yellowish semen, often accompanied by other symptoms like pain or discomfort.
5. Semen Quality: The quality of semen can also be affected by lifestyle factors such as stress, sleep patterns, and overall health. You mentioned that you tend to stay up late and have irregular sleep patterns. Sleep is crucial for hormonal balance and overall reproductive health. Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to hormonal changes that may affect semen quality.
6. Medical Evaluation: Since you have already consulted a physician who attributed your symptoms to lifestyle factors, it may be beneficial to follow up if the yellow coloration persists or if you experience any additional symptoms, such as pain, swelling, or changes in urination. A urologist can perform tests to rule out any underlying conditions that may require treatment.
In conclusion, while occasional changes in semen color can be normal and may not indicate a serious problem, it’s essential to monitor your overall health and any accompanying symptoms. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, staying hydrated, and managing stress can contribute positively to your reproductive health. If you have ongoing concerns, seeking a second opinion or further evaluation may provide additional peace of mind.
