Struggling with Acne: Is It Related to My Liver Health? - Dermatology

Share to:

I need help~ I hope the doctor can assist me?

I have a lot of acne on my face.
I thought I was still in my teenage years, but that's not the case! I've been dealing with acne since middle school, thinking it would clear up by high school, but it hasn't.
I wash my face frequently and have seen doctors, but nothing seems to work.
The medications I've taken make me feel nauseous.
This has affected my social life and has made me less outgoing than I used to be.

I want to know if my acne issues are related to something internal, and I suspect it might be a liver problem.
I usually have classes and don't have time for check-ups, but I also don't want to take leave to go to the hospital.
I'm curious if my acne could be linked to liver issues or if it's due to lack of sleep.
I often help my dad with work and can't get enough rest!
Question 1: I frequently yawn, and when I wake up in the morning, I have eye discharge.
I feel like I have a lot of internal heat; could this be a symptom of liver problems?
Question 2: If I need to see a doctor, which hospital in the Luzhou area of New Taipei City would be the safest option?
I have so many questions and hope to find a solution soon.
I'm really worried about how this is affecting my life!

Acne is not related to the liver, but it is advisable to avoid staying up late.
Acne does not improve after just one visit.
In Luzhou, I only know of Dr.
Huang Jian-Yong's dermatology clinic, located at No.
55, Zhongzheng Road, where you can go for consultation.

More Info

Acne is a common skin condition that can be influenced by various factors, including hormonal changes, diet, stress, and potentially underlying health issues, including liver health. While it is understandable to be concerned about the relationship between acne and liver function, it is essential to approach this topic with a clear understanding of how the liver and skin health are interconnected.

Understanding Acne and Its Causes
Acne occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. This can lead to the growth of bacteria, inflammation, and the formation of pimples. The primary factors contributing to acne include:
1. Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormones, particularly androgens, can increase oil production in the skin, leading to acne. This is often seen during puberty, menstrual cycles, and conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

2. Diet: Certain foods, particularly those high in sugars and dairy, may exacerbate acne in some individuals. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is generally recommended for skin health.

3. Stress: Stress can trigger hormonal changes that may worsen acne. It can also lead to behaviors like touching the face or picking at blemishes, which can further aggravate the skin.

4. Sleep: Lack of sleep can affect overall health, including skin health. Sleep is crucial for the body’s repair processes, and inadequate rest can lead to increased stress hormones, which may worsen acne.

Liver Health and Acne
The liver plays a crucial role in detoxification and metabolism. While liver dysfunction can lead to various skin issues, including jaundice (yellowing of the skin), it is less commonly associated with acne. However, some signs of liver problems can manifest in the skin, such as:
- Jaundice: Yellowing of the skin and eyes, indicating liver dysfunction.

- Itchy Skin: Often associated with liver disease due to bile salt accumulation.

- Rashes: Certain liver conditions can lead to skin rashes, but these are typically not the same as acne.

Addressing Your Concerns
1. Symptoms of Liver Issues: The symptoms you mentioned, such as frequent yawning, eye discharge, and feeling irritable, are not specific indicators of liver problems. These could be related to lack of sleep, stress, or other factors. However, if you experience symptoms like jaundice, severe fatigue, or abdominal pain, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional.

2. Seeking Medical Help: If you are concerned about your acne and its potential connection to your health, it is advisable to see a dermatologist. They can provide a thorough evaluation and recommend appropriate treatments. In your area, you might consider hospitals or clinics that specialize in dermatology for a comprehensive assessment.

3. Lifestyle Modifications: Improving your sleep hygiene, managing stress, and maintaining a balanced diet can positively impact your skin health. Consider setting aside time for relaxation and self-care, which can help reduce stress levels.

4. Treatment Options: There are various treatments available for acne, ranging from topical medications (like benzoyl peroxide or retinoids) to oral medications (like antibiotics or hormonal treatments). A dermatologist can help determine the best course of action based on your specific situation.

Conclusion
While it is natural to worry about the connection between your skin and liver health, it is essential to approach this with a balanced perspective. Acne is multifactorial, and while liver health is important, it is not the sole contributor to acne. Prioritizing a healthy lifestyle, seeking professional advice, and addressing any underlying health concerns will be beneficial in managing your acne and overall well-being. If you have persistent concerns about your liver health, consider scheduling a check-up with a healthcare provider for peace of mind.
