Urological Concerns: White Bumps on the Penis Explained - Urology

I'm a bit worried..?

Doctor, I am 21 years old and a student with a steady partner.
I often masturbate (about 1-2 times a day) and have undergone circumcision.
I noticed some small white spots on my penis during middle school; they are painless and itch-free.
Recently, I have observed that these spots seem to have increased in number and are now visible all over my penis, even on the glans, but they remain painless and itch-free.
I am concerned that they might be genital warts, but they are quite small and don’t look exactly like that; they seem more like pearly penile papules.
When I consulted a doctor, he mentioned that it was a lesion and prescribed injections and medication.
When I asked if it was harmful, he said it is currently harmless but could become harmful in the future (??).
He also mentioned that it could be contagious, but when I asked for clarification, he said it was too complicated and that I wouldn’t understand (??).
Therefore, I am hesitant to take the medication he prescribed...
(I have some doubts about him...) So I would like to ask if it is really contagious and if it is harmful?

That's good! You know a lot.
It seems that "pearl-like papules" don't require medication or injections.
Please consult a urologist at a local hospital and avoid taking medication indiscriminately.

Understanding urological concerns, particularly those involving white bumps on the penis, can be quite distressing for many individuals. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing white bumps or spots on your penis that have increased in number over time. You mentioned that these bumps are painless and do not cause any itching, which is an important detail in assessing the situation.

From a medical perspective, there are several potential explanations for the appearance of white bumps on the penis. One common condition that may present in this manner is pearly penile papules, which are small, benign growths that typically appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). These papules are normal anatomical variations and are not associated with any disease or infection. They are harmless and do not require treatment unless they cause psychological distress.

Another possibility is Fordyce spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis and are caused by enlarged sebaceous glands. Like pearly penile papules, Fordyce spots are benign and do not pose any health risks.

However, your concern about the possibility of a sexually transmitted infection (STI), such as genital warts caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), is valid. Genital warts can appear as small, flesh-colored or white bumps and may be mistaken for other types of lesions. While you noted that the bumps are small and do not resemble typical warts, it is still essential to consider this possibility, especially if you have had multiple sexual partners or if your partner has had any known STIs.

Regarding your doctor's comments about the potential for harm and transmission, it is crucial to clarify what they meant. Some conditions, particularly STIs, can be transmitted through sexual contact, and certain infections can lead to complications if left untreated. For instance, while pearly penile papules and Fordyce spots are harmless, conditions like HPV can lead to more serious health issues, including cancer, if not monitored and managed appropriately.

If your doctor prescribed medication, it is essential to understand the rationale behind it. If you have concerns about the medication's safety or necessity, do not hesitate to seek a second opinion from another healthcare provider. Open communication with your healthcare provider is vital for your peace of mind and overall health.

In summary, while the white bumps you are experiencing may be benign, it is essential to have a thorough evaluation by a qualified urologist or dermatologist. They can provide a definitive diagnosis and recommend appropriate management if necessary. Regular check-ups and open discussions about sexual health are crucial for maintaining your well-being and addressing any concerns you may have. Remember, it is always better to seek professional advice than to rely solely on online information, as each individual’s situation is unique.
