I hate my under-eye bags?
I would like to ask about eyelid bag surgery.
Generally speaking, after the surgery, will eyelid bags reappear in the future? I'm concerned that they might still show up later, which would make the surgery not worth it.
Also, do most surgical clinics offer installment payment options? I currently don't have the financial means, so I can only save a little from my allowance.
Eyelid bags are really something I dislike, so I definitely want to get rid of them no matter what!

Dr. Hu Yusheng reply Ophthalmology
Hello, high school girl: There are many reasons for the formation of under-eye bags, such as simply having a higher amount of fat, having a thicker orbicularis oculi muscle in the eyelids, or a combination of these two factors.
Additionally, localized edema due to blood circulation issues can also contribute.
The duration of surgical results for under-eye bags varies depending on the cause; for instance, fat can regenerate, while muscle does not typically do so, and surgery may not have a significant effect on edema.
Preoperative aesthetic assessment is also crucial, as it is important to consider overall aesthetics to avoid excessive alterations that may highlight other issues or reveal artificial scars.
I have not heard of any installment payment options; the total cost for bilateral surgery at our hospital is $13,261, which should not be considered too expensive.
Sincerely, Dr.

More Info
Eyelid surgery, commonly known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eyelids, which can help reduce the appearance of bags under the eyes. While many patients experience significant improvement in the appearance of their eyelids after surgery, it is important to understand that the results are not necessarily permanent.
Will Eyelid Surgery Permanently Remove Bags Under Eyes?
1. Longevity of Results: The results of eyelid surgery can last for many years, but they are not immune to the natural aging process. Factors such as genetics, lifestyle, and environmental influences can contribute to the development of new bags or the reappearance of existing ones. For instance, if you have a genetic predisposition to under-eye bags, you may notice them returning over time, even after surgery.
2. Post-Surgery Care: Proper post-operative care can help maintain the results of your surgery. This includes following your surgeon's instructions regarding wound care, avoiding sun exposure, and possibly using topical treatments to support skin health. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, hydration, and adequate sleep, can also play a role in prolonging the results.
3. Age and Skin Elasticity: As you age, your skin loses elasticity, which can lead to sagging and the formation of bags under the eyes. While eyelid surgery can remove existing bags, it does not prevent new ones from forming as your skin continues to age.
Financial Considerations
Regarding your concern about the financial aspect of eyelid surgery, many clinics and hospitals do offer financing options or payment plans to make the procedure more accessible. It is advisable to inquire directly with the facility where you plan to have the surgery. They may have partnerships with financing companies that allow you to pay in installments, making it easier to manage the cost over time.
Conclusion
In summary, while eyelid surgery can significantly improve the appearance of bags under the eyes and provide long-lasting results, it is not a guarantee that new bags will not develop in the future. Factors such as aging, genetics, and lifestyle choices will continue to play a role in the condition of your eyelids. If you are considering this procedure, it is essential to have realistic expectations and to discuss your concerns with a qualified plastic surgeon or ophthalmologist who specializes in eyelid surgery. They can provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the procedure, expected outcomes, and any potential risks involved.
Lastly, if you are concerned about the financial implications, be sure to explore all available options, including payment plans, to ensure that you can proceed with the surgery when you feel ready.
