Where can I get a flu vaccine?

We live in Hsinchu.
Is there a free flu vaccination available? Besides health centers, are there other places where vaccinations can be administered? Are there options for getting vaccinated outside of regular working or school hours? Is there a free vaccination for tuberous sclerosis? Please provide me with a response, doctor.
Thank you!

Dr. Gu Zhenting reply Pharmacology

According to the announcement from the Centers for Disease Control: The Department of Health's Centers for Disease Control will expand the implementation of the 2023 influenza vaccination program starting from November 10, following the practices of previous years.
The expanded vaccination targets include: (1) children under three years old (the appropriate age for the pediatric formulation is 6-36 months), (2) individuals with serious illnesses, (3) elderly individuals aged 60-64 and above, (4) pharmacists in community pharmacies, medical laboratory technicians, school nurses, and crew members of international flights.
The CDC also reminds those who meet the aforementioned vaccination criteria to take advantage of the vaccination period, starting from November 10, and to bring their identification and relevant documentation (children - child health handbook, serious illness cases - serious illness card, pharmacists, pharmacy students, medical laboratory technicians, and school nurses - a copy of their professional license) to local health offices and contracted hospitals or clinics for vaccination.
The vaccines required for this expanded group will be provided free of charge by the government, while other registration and consultation fees will be borne by the public.
The vaccination period will end once the vaccine supply is exhausted.
A physician's assessment is required before vaccination at the contracted medical institutions listed in the attachment for the 2023 influenza vaccination program in Hsinchu City!

More Info

In Hsinchu, there are several locations where you can receive free flu shots, especially during the flu season. The primary provider for free vaccinations is the local health department, which typically offers these services at designated health centers. However, there are also other venues where you can get vaccinated for free or at a low cost.

1. Local Health Centers: The Hsinchu City Health Bureau operates multiple health centers throughout the city. These centers usually provide free flu vaccinations to eligible populations, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with certain health conditions. It's advisable to check with your nearest health center for specific eligibility criteria and availability.

2. Hospitals: Some hospitals may also offer free flu shots, particularly during the flu season. It's best to contact the hospital directly to inquire about their vaccination program and whether they provide free vaccines.

3. Community Health Events: Occasionally, community organizations or local government initiatives may host health fairs or vaccination drives where free flu shots are administered. Keep an eye on local announcements or community boards for such events.

4. Pharmacies: While most pharmacies charge for flu shots, some may offer promotional free vaccinations during specific periods, especially if they are collaborating with health organizations. It's worth checking with major pharmacy chains in Hsinchu.

5. Universities and Schools: If you are a student or have children in school, some educational institutions may provide free flu vaccinations as part of their health programs. Contact the health services department of the institution for more information.

Regarding the timing of vaccinations, many health centers and hospitals operate during regular business hours, typically from 8 AM to 5 PM. However, some locations may offer extended hours or weekend services, particularly during peak flu season. It is advisable to call ahead to confirm the hours of operation and whether you need to make an appointment.

As for your question about whether free flu shots are available for individuals with tuberous sclerosis (結節性硬化症), generally, individuals with chronic health conditions are encouraged to receive flu vaccinations. The health department usually does not restrict vaccinations based on specific conditions, but it is always best to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure that vaccination is appropriate for your health status.

In summary, you can get free flu shots in Hsinchu at local health centers, hospitals, and potentially through community health events or pharmacies. Be sure to check the specific eligibility criteria and hours of operation for each location. If you have any further questions or need assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to your local health department or healthcare provider.
