Glandular Discharge and Pain in the Urogenital Area - Urology

Glans secretions

Recently, I've been experiencing a small amount of yellowish discharge from my glans every hour.
Although it's not painful, I often need to clean it.
Additionally, after masturbation or sexual intercourse, my corpora cavernosa feel quite sore.
Furthermore, I've developed a small hard lump in the right inguinal region that hurts when pressed, which has never happened before.
I suspect it might be related to my increased frequency of sexual activity or masturbation.
Will resting for a while help it heal?

DD, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2004/12/27

Dr. Chen Xiuyi reply Urology

Hello: Based on your description, it is advisable to rule out the possibility of urethritis by conducting a urinalysis and a culture of urethral discharge to exclude bacterial infection.
Sincerely, Dr.

More Info

It sounds like you're experiencing a combination of symptoms that could be related to several underlying conditions. The yellowish discharge from the glans, discomfort in the erectile tissue after sexual activity, and the painful lump in the right inguinal area are all concerning signs that warrant further investigation.

Understanding Your Symptoms
1. Glandular Discharge: The yellowish discharge you are experiencing could be indicative of a few conditions. In men, such discharge can be associated with infections, such as urethritis, which can be caused by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like gonorrhea or chlamydia. Even if there is no pain, the presence of discharge is a signal that something may be amiss.
2. Pain in the Erectile Tissue: The soreness in the erectile tissue after sexual activity could be due to overuse or trauma, especially if the frequency of sexual activity has increased recently. However, it could also be a sign of an underlying condition, such as Peyronie's disease, which involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, leading to pain and curvature during erections.

3. Inguinal Lump: The small hard lump in the right inguinal area that is painful upon pressure could be a lymph node, an inguinal hernia, or even a cyst. Lymph nodes can become enlarged due to infections, including STIs, while hernias can occur due to increased intra-abdominal pressure, especially if there has been heavy lifting or straining.

Recommended Actions
Given the complexity of your symptoms, here are some steps you should consider taking:
1. Consult a Urologist: Since your symptoms are primarily related to the urogenital area, a urologist would be the most appropriate specialist to consult. They can perform a thorough examination, including a physical exam and possibly imaging studies, to assess the lump and any other abnormalities.

2. Testing for STIs: It would be prudent to get tested for sexually transmitted infections, especially given the discharge. A urinalysis and cultures may be necessary to identify any pathogens.

3. Avoid Sexual Activity: Until you have a clearer understanding of your symptoms, it may be wise to refrain from sexual activity, including masturbation. This will help prevent further irritation and allow any potential infection to be assessed without complicating factors.

4. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in your symptoms, including the nature of the discharge, any new pain, or changes in the lump. This information will be valuable for your healthcare provider.

5. Home Care: In the meantime, you can practice good hygiene by cleaning the area gently with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh soaps or irritants that could exacerbate any inflammation.

6. Pain Management: If you experience discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage pain, but consult with a healthcare provider before taking any medication, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.

Conclusion
While some of your symptoms may resolve with rest and time, it is crucial to seek medical attention to rule out any serious conditions. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications and ensure a better outcome. Please make an appointment with a urologist as soon as possible to address your concerns comprehensively.
