Blister issues?
Hello Dr.
Pan! I have a question to ask you.
I have a blister at the tip of my glans (urethral opening).
I previously saw a doctor who said it was nothing to worry about.
He used a needle to drain the fluid inside, and the blister disappeared, but it reappeared after one or two months (in the same condition and location).
What could this problem be? Is there a solution? Thank you for your response, Dr.
Pan! Thank you!

Since the physician previously handled it through aspiration and it is a blister at the urethral opening, it indicates that it is likely not a herpes-related issue, but rather a mucosal cyst.
Generally, one aspiration treatment is sufficient.
If it recurs in the short term, it may be worth considering whether there is a small mucosal fistula near the urethral opening at the distal urethra, with its blind end at the urethral opening.
If this is the case, it is necessary to locate the entrance of the fistula at the distal urethra and cauterize it to prevent recurrence.
It is recommended that you consult a urologist and discuss this possibility for a thorough investigation.
Wishing you health and safety from the Urology Department of Tainan Hospital, Department of Health.

Hello! Thank you for your question regarding the recurring blister on the urethra. It’s understandable to be concerned about this issue, especially since it has recurred multiple times in the same location.
The blister you are describing at the urethral opening could be due to several potential causes. One common reason for such blisters is a condition known as a mucous cyst or urethral cyst, which can occur when the glands in the urethra become blocked. These cysts are typically benign and may fill with fluid, leading to the formation of a blister-like appearance.
Another possibility is that the blister could be related to irritation or trauma to the area, which might occur due to friction, infections, or even sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Conditions such as herpes simplex virus can also cause blisters in the genital area, although these typically present with additional symptoms such as pain, itching, or systemic symptoms like fever.
If the blister is recurrent and has been drained previously, it may indicate that the underlying cause has not been fully addressed. While draining the fluid can provide temporary relief, it does not necessarily resolve the underlying issue, which could lead to recurrence.
In terms of solutions, it is essential to have a thorough examination by a urologist or a dermatologist specializing in genital conditions. They may recommend imaging studies or a biopsy if necessary to determine the exact nature of the blister. Treatment options may vary depending on the diagnosis. For instance, if it is a mucous cyst, monitoring may be sufficient, but if it is due to an infection or another underlying condition, appropriate medical treatment will be necessary.
In addition to medical treatment, maintaining good hygiene and avoiding irritants in the genital area can help reduce the risk of recurrence. If you suspect that the blister is related to sexual activity, it may be wise to discuss this with your partner and consider safer practices to minimize irritation.
In summary, while the blister may not be a cause for alarm, its recurrent nature warrants further investigation to ensure that there is no underlying issue that needs to be addressed. Consulting with a healthcare professional who can provide a comprehensive evaluation and tailored treatment plan is the best course of action. Thank you for your question, and I hope this information helps you find a resolution to your concern!
