Regarding rosacea?

I am a patient with rosacea.
My face often becomes red, resembling erythematous lupus, except for the area around my eyes.
There is redness from rosacea in other areas.
I applied a gentle cleanser, but there was not much improvement.
Last night, I used Ecosone cream and applied a DMS refreshing lotion.
When I woke up today, my skin condition was very good.
Previously, my face looked like I was wearing a mask, with redness, swelling, and heat in all areas except for the eye circles.
My entire face appeared blotchy.
I don't understand why, after using Ecosone, my face looks almost normal.
It doesn't turn red when not exposed to sunlight.
I would like to find an answer.
Thank you.

Hello: Econazole contains 10 mg of Econazole Nitrate and 1 mg of Triamcinolone Acetonide.
It alters the permeability of bacterial and fungal cell membranes and inhibits the synthesis of proteins and RNA, achieving the goal of killing pathogens.
Additionally, Triamcinolone Acetonide is a fluorinated corticosteroid that works by inhibiting histamine synthesis and antigen formation at the site of infection to achieve antibacterial effects.

Side effects may include: fungal skin infections, acne, erythema, papules, telangiectasia, crusting, scaling, skin atrophy, purpura, hirsutism, pigment loss, allergies, and suppression of pituitary and adrenal cortex function.

Precautions: 1.
Generally, do not use on eczema or dermatitis accompanied by skin infections.
2.
Extensive or prolonged use, such as with occlusive dressings (ODT), may cause symptoms similar to systemic administration of corticosteroids.
3.
In children, prolonged or excessive use may lead to developmental disorders.
4.
For external use only; do not apply to the eyes.
This medication is a corticosteroid, so it is effective, but long-term use should be avoided.
I recommend consulting a dermatologist to determine the duration of use.

More Info

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face, leading to symptoms such as redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes acne-like bumps. It can be triggered by various factors, including sun exposure, stress, hot beverages, spicy foods, and certain skincare products. Your experience with rosacea, particularly the redness and discomfort, is common among those affected by this condition.

The treatment of rosacea typically involves a combination of lifestyle modifications and topical or oral medications. Topical treatments like metronidazole, azelaic acid, and ivermectin are often prescribed to reduce inflammation and redness. In your case, you mentioned using Ecosone cream, which contains a corticosteroid (likely hydrocortisone) that can help reduce inflammation and redness temporarily. However, long-term use of topical steroids can lead to skin thinning and worsening of rosacea symptoms, so it's essential to use them cautiously and under the guidance of a healthcare provider.

The DMS (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) lotion you applied may have provided a soothing effect, as DMSO is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to penetrate the skin barrier. This could explain the improvement you noticed after using it. However, it's crucial to ensure that any product you use is suitable for sensitive skin, as rosacea-prone skin can react adversely to many ingredients.

In addition to topical treatments, oral medications such as antibiotics (like doxycycline) may be prescribed for more severe cases of rosacea. These antibiotics can help reduce inflammation and bacterial overgrowth associated with the condition. Furthermore, lifestyle changes, such as avoiding known triggers (like sun exposure and certain foods), using gentle skincare products, and applying sunscreen daily, can significantly improve your skin's condition.

It's also worth noting that some patients find relief through laser treatments or intense pulsed light therapy, which can help reduce redness and improve skin texture. Consulting with a dermatologist who specializes in rosacea can provide you with a tailored treatment plan that addresses your specific symptoms and concerns.

In summary, while your experience with Ecosone and DMS lotion has led to an improvement in your rosacea symptoms, it's essential to approach treatment holistically. This includes understanding your triggers, using appropriate topical and oral medications, and considering professional treatments if necessary. Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting or changing any treatment regimen to ensure it aligns with your specific needs and condition.
