Swelling and pain of the labia majora?
A few days ago, I noticed some pain in my left labium majus.
Upon touching it, I found a swollen area inside that was about the size of a soybean, and pressing on it causes pain.
Now, my left labium majus is noticeably more prominent than the right side.
I would like to know what this issue might be.
I usually have my period quite frequently, every 15 to 16 days, and the bleeding is not heavy.
I want to know if there is a connection between the two, as I discovered this swelling and pain just as my period was starting, and it seems to be obstructing the flow of menstrual blood, as the blood only reaches the vaginal opening and does not get onto the pad.

Based on your description, it is most likely an inflammation of the glands in the labial area, which can be treated with antibiotics.
If your symptoms are cyclical like menstruation, then hormonal-related conditions should be considered, and you should seek medical evaluation.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding pain and swelling in the labia can be concerning, especially when accompanied by other symptoms such as changes in menstrual flow. Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing swelling and pain in the left labium majus, which could be due to several potential causes.
One common cause of swelling and pain in the labia is a Bartholin's gland cyst. The Bartholin's glands are located on either side of the vaginal opening and are responsible for secreting fluid that helps lubricate the vagina. If one of these glands becomes blocked, fluid can accumulate, leading to a cyst. This cyst can become painful, especially if it becomes infected, which may explain the tenderness you are feeling. The size you described, similar to a soybean, is consistent with a cyst.
Another possibility is an infection, such as a vulvar or vaginal infection, which can cause localized swelling and pain. Conditions like vulvitis or vaginitis can result from various factors, including bacterial infections, yeast infections, or sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If the swelling is accompanied by unusual discharge, itching, or a burning sensation, these could be signs of an infection that would require medical evaluation.
Additionally, it is important to consider whether there might be any relationship between your menstrual cycle and the symptoms you are experiencing. Hormonal changes during your menstrual cycle can lead to increased sensitivity and swelling in the vulvar area. The timing of your symptoms with the onset of your period may suggest that hormonal fluctuations are contributing to the swelling and discomfort. However, if you feel that the swelling is obstructing menstrual flow, this could indicate a more serious issue that should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
Given that your symptoms have caused noticeable changes and discomfort, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination to determine the exact cause of the swelling and pain. They may also conduct tests to rule out infections or other underlying conditions. If a cyst is diagnosed, treatment options may include observation, warm compresses, or, in some cases, surgical drainage if the cyst is infected or causing significant discomfort.
In summary, while the symptoms you are experiencing could be related to a variety of conditions, including a Bartholin's gland cyst or an infection, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Ignoring these symptoms could lead to complications, especially if an infection is present. Your health and comfort are paramount, so do not hesitate to seek help.
