Need help from a doctor?
Hello doctor, I have already seen a physician.
The doctor directly asked me if watching adult films causes erectile issues, and then he replied, "That's quite serious." I was startled and said that it doesn't happen unless I use my hands, but it doesn't get very hard.
The doctor also performed a blood test, and last night when I checked the results, he said my hormone levels were normal.
This doctor mentioned that I might be overthinking it and warned that if I continue to think this way, I could develop psychological erectile dysfunction.
The report came out yesterday, and I was relieved to find that there was nothing wrong.
The doctor didn't ask me to return for a follow-up, but I still feel anxious about it.
I can't help but think about this issue, and it seems like I can't concentrate on anything, including watching TV or reading.
Additionally, I had been staying up late frequently and masturbating often (before I turned 17, I would do it 2-3 times a week).
What kind of situation might this lead to? Previously, I would sleep around 2 or 3 AM and wake up naturally (since I had very few classes), but now I go to bed around 11 PM or midnight.
Is it too late for treatment? Will I recover?

Hello, the saying "when one is well-fed and warm, one thinks of lust" is something you may have heard before.
From a professional perspective, this phrase suggests that sexual desire arises only when one's physical condition is good.
Therefore, I believe your issue is not significant; it may be caused by irregular routines and psychological stress.
Response from Dr.
Hsu Wei-Kai, Director of Urology, Taitung Hospital, Department of Health, Executive Yuan, expressing concern for you.

It's great to hear that you've already consulted a doctor regarding your urological concerns and that your hormone levels came back normal. This is a positive sign, and it indicates that there may not be any underlying physiological issues contributing to your anxiety about erectile function. However, it's understandable that you still feel anxious and preoccupied with the situation. Let's explore some strategies to help you regain your confidence and manage your anxiety.
First, it's important to recognize that anxiety can significantly impact sexual performance. The mind and body are closely connected, and psychological factors often play a crucial role in sexual health. When you worry excessively about your ability to perform, it can create a cycle of anxiety that makes the situation worse. This is sometimes referred to as "performance anxiety." The more you think about it, the more pressure you put on yourself, which can lead to difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection.
Here are some strategies to help you manage your anxiety and regain confidence:
1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Consider seeking therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, which is effective for anxiety. A therapist can help you identify negative thought patterns and replace them with more positive, realistic ones. This can help reduce anxiety and improve your overall mental health.
2. Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: Practicing mindfulness can help you stay present and reduce anxiety. Techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or progressive muscle relaxation can help calm your mind and body. When you feel anxious, take a moment to focus on your breath, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly.
3. Limit Stimulants: Reduce or eliminate caffeine and nicotine, as these can increase anxiety levels. Instead, focus on a balanced diet and regular exercise, which can improve your mood and overall well-being.
4. Open Communication: If you are in a relationship, consider discussing your feelings with your partner. Open communication can alleviate some of the pressure you may feel and foster a supportive environment. Your partner may also have insights or reassurance that can help you feel more at ease.
5. Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that sexual performance can vary from time to time, and it's normal for everyone to experience fluctuations. Setting realistic expectations for yourself can help reduce pressure and anxiety.
6. Limit Exposure to Triggers: If watching adult films increases your anxiety, consider reducing your exposure to them. Instead, focus on building intimacy and connection with your partner in a way that feels comfortable for both of you.
7. Focus on Overall Health: Since you mentioned a history of late nights and frequent masturbation, it's important to establish a healthy routine. Aim for regular sleep patterns, a balanced diet, and physical activity. These lifestyle changes can positively impact your mental and physical health.
8. Gradual Exposure: If you find yourself avoiding situations that trigger anxiety, try gradually exposing yourself to those situations in a controlled manner. This can help desensitize you to the anxiety and build your confidence over time.
9. Seek Professional Help: If your anxiety persists or worsens, consider consulting a mental health professional. They can provide tailored strategies and support to help you navigate your feelings.
It's never too late to seek treatment or make changes that can improve your mental health and sexual well-being. Remember that recovery is a process, and it's okay to take it one step at a time. With the right support and strategies, you can regain your confidence and enjoy a fulfilling life.
