Am I Suffering from Depression? Mental Health Struggles - Psychiatry

Am I also a patient with depression?

I really feel helpless...
In early November last year, I got involved in someone else's family issues, which led to a series of real and exaggerated "dramas." The other party (a woman) hired a private investigator to follow me and sent me a bunch of threatening and abusive messages, even saying she would hire gangsters to break my arms and legs and harm my mother! ...
Since December, I have been living in fear every time I go out, and the police told me: just be careful when you go out and try not to be alone! In March, I was actually attacked by an assailant; fortunately, I wasn't hurt, but I became even more afraid to go out.
At work, I am in a leadership position, so I have to put on a brave face and pretend that everything is fine .
I am already feeling very down, yet I have to motivate and encourage others, just to play my role...
At work, leaders are expected not to show emotions.
I know that, but I’m really tired...
Then the economy started to be affected, but because of my home environment, I have been independent for a long time and don’t want my mother to know or worry, so I feel like I’m forcing myself to get through each day .
I can't stay at home all the time because my mother would worry, but I don't want to be around people because I can't show a sour face to others.
Recently, my favorite thing to do is to stay locked in my room all day, almost like I'm isolating myself, so I won't feel so much pain.
Lately, I often feel a sense of heartache and tightness in my chest .
Additionally, I have developed the ability to cry in three seconds; whether it's meditating, reading the news, looking at articles, listening to stories, or watching the news...
I can tear up in three seconds...
Should I see a doctor? Should I take medication? Can hospitals keep patient information confidential?

It sounds like you are going through an incredibly challenging time, and it's understandable to feel overwhelmed and helpless given the circumstances you've described. The experiences you've faced, including threats, fear for your safety, and the pressure of maintaining a facade at work, can significantly impact your mental health.
From what you've shared, it appears that you may be experiencing symptoms commonly associated with depression and anxiety. These can include persistent feelings of sadness, emotional numbness, difficulty in managing daily responsibilities, and physical symptoms like chest tightness. The fact that you find yourself crying easily and feeling a sense of hopelessness indicates that your emotional state is being heavily affected by the stressors in your life.

It's important to recognize that feeling overwhelmed and struggling with your emotions does not mean you are weak or incapable. Many people experience mental health challenges, especially when faced with traumatic events or prolonged stress. The fear and anxiety stemming from the threats you've received, coupled with the pressure to perform at work and maintain a positive demeanor, can lead to feelings of burnout and emotional exhaustion.

You mentioned that you often feel the need to isolate yourself, which is a common response to overwhelming stress. However, isolation can exacerbate feelings of loneliness and sadness. It's crucial to find a balance between taking time for yourself and seeking support from others. Talking to friends, family, or colleagues who understand your situation can provide relief and help you feel less alone.

Regarding your question about seeing a doctor, it is highly advisable to seek professional help. A mental health professional can provide you with a safe space to discuss your feelings and experiences without judgment. They can also help you determine whether you are experiencing depression or anxiety and discuss potential treatment options, which may include therapy or medication. It's important to know that healthcare providers are required to keep your information confidential, so you can feel secure in seeking help.

In terms of coping strategies, consider incorporating activities that promote relaxation and emotional expression into your routine. This could include mindfulness practices, journaling, or engaging in creative outlets like art or music. Physical activity, even in small amounts, can also help alleviate some symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Lastly, remember that you are not alone in this struggle. Many individuals face similar challenges, and reaching out for help is a courageous step towards healing. If you feel comfortable, consider contacting a mental health professional or a support group where you can share your experiences and learn from others who have faced similar situations. Your feelings are valid, and taking the step to seek help is a positive move towards regaining control over your mental health.
