Severe sexual dysfunction issues?

Hello doctor, I am 17 years old.
Four years ago, I developed a habit of masturbation and have been doing it daily.
Recently, I stopped for a month, but today when I masturbated, I noticed that my erection was somewhat insufficient, the ejaculation was quite sparse and the semen was slightly yellowish.
I also experienced premature ejaculation, lasting about 10 seconds before ejaculation.
What could this be? I feel very guilty and insecure, and I don't dare to tell my parents.

Kang, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2005/06/03

Dr. Chen Zhirong reply Urology

Based on your description, it appears to be a case of prostatitis.
Whether treatment is necessary can only be determined through examination and testing during a medical consultation.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation (PE) are issues that can affect individuals of various ages, including teenagers. It's important to understand that these conditions can be influenced by a variety of factors, including psychological, physiological, and lifestyle elements.

Firstly, it's worth noting that the habits you've described, such as frequent masturbation, can sometimes lead to temporary changes in sexual function. While masturbation is a normal and healthy activity, excessive or compulsive behavior may lead to issues like reduced sensitivity or performance anxiety. This could explain the difficulties you are experiencing with erectile hardness and the rapid ejaculation you mentioned.

Erectile dysfunction in teens can be caused by several factors. Psychological issues, such as anxiety, stress, or depression, can significantly impact sexual performance. The feelings of guilt or shame you mentioned may contribute to performance anxiety, which can further exacerbate the problem. Additionally, hormonal changes during adolescence can also affect sexual function. It's essential to recognize that many teens experience fluctuations in their sexual health, and these issues often resolve themselves over time.

Premature ejaculation is another common concern among young men. It can be influenced by a variety of factors, including anxiety, lack of experience, or even certain medical conditions. The fact that you mentioned your semen appears yellowish could be a sign of dehydration or a dietary issue, but it’s not uncommon for semen to vary in color. If the yellow color persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, it may be worth consulting a healthcare professional.

It's crucial to approach these issues with a mindset of understanding and self-compassion. Many young men experience similar challenges, and it's important to remember that you are not alone. If these issues persist or worsen, seeking help from a healthcare provider can be beneficial. They can provide a comprehensive evaluation and discuss potential treatment options, which may include counseling, lifestyle changes, or medical interventions if necessary.

In the meantime, consider adopting healthier lifestyle habits that can improve your overall well-being and sexual health. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate hydration, and sufficient sleep can all contribute positively to your sexual function. Additionally, practicing relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing or mindfulness, can help reduce anxiety and improve your confidence.

Lastly, while it may feel daunting, consider talking to a trusted adult or healthcare professional about your concerns. They can provide support and guidance, helping you navigate these challenges more effectively. Remember, sexual health is an important aspect of overall health, and seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
