Hello, in response to your question: Amlodipine is used for the treatment of angina pectoris and hypertension.
The side effects of the medication mainly include gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, abdominal pain, dizziness, bradycardia, facial flushing, allergic reactions, and headaches, although not everyone will experience these side effects.
The antihypertensive effect of this medication begins approximately 15 to 60 minutes after administration, with a peak effect lasting up to 4 hours.
Therefore, if the medication is taken incorrectly, blood pressure may be lowered.
About 24 hours later, the drug concentration in the blood will decrease to zero.

合必爽錠 (Hobisou Tablets), produced by Tanabe Seiyaku, is primarily indicated for the treatment of angina pectoris and hypertension. This medication belongs to the class of calcium channel blockers, which work by relaxing the blood vessels, thereby allowing for improved blood flow and reduced blood pressure. The primary therapeutic effects include alleviating symptoms associated with angina and effectively managing high blood pressure, which can help prevent complications such as heart attacks and strokes.
When discussing the potential side effects of 合必爽錠, it is important to note that not every patient will experience these adverse effects. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, abdominal pain, dizziness, bradycardia (slow heart rate), facial flushing, allergic reactions, and headaches. The onset of the drug's effects typically occurs within 15 to 60 minutes after administration, with peak effects lasting up to 4 hours. Importantly, if a patient accidentally overdoses on this medication, it can lead to a significant drop in blood pressure, which may result in symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, or even more severe complications.
In the context of the case presented, where a patient mistakenly ingested 合必爽錠 and subsequently experienced severe gastrointestinal symptoms, it is crucial to analyze the situation carefully. The patient reported vomiting brownish material and exhibited signs of low blood pressure and low hemoglobin levels, which raised concerns about possible acute gastrointestinal bleeding. While the side effects of 合必爽錠 are generally mild and do not typically include gastrointestinal bleeding, the possibility of an adverse reaction cannot be entirely ruled out, especially in patients with pre-existing conditions or those taking multiple medications.
It is also worth considering the patient's history of gout and any medications they may have been taking, such as colchicine, which can have gastrointestinal side effects and may contribute to the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, particularly if used long-term or in higher doses. The interaction between different medications and the patient's overall health status must be taken into account when evaluating the cause of the symptoms experienced.
In summary, while 合必爽錠 is effective for treating angina and hypertension, it is essential for patients to be aware of its potential side effects and to communicate any unusual symptoms to their healthcare provider promptly. In cases of accidental overdose or adverse reactions, immediate medical attention is crucial to prevent serious complications. Regular follow-ups and monitoring of blood pressure and overall health are recommended for patients on this medication to ensure safe and effective treatment.
