Prepuce issues

Is it normal for the area to still be swollen more than a month after circumcision? Could this be related to my body type, or is there an underlying issue? The wound doesn't hurt much anymore, but the swelling hasn't gone down.
What could be the cause of this? Please provide some insight.

Hello: If the area is still swollen more than a month after the circumcision, it may be due to your body’s constitution or scar tissue.
It is recommended that you return to the outpatient clinic for an examination by the surgeon for further diagnosis and treatment.
Thank you!

More Info

Post-circumcision swelling can be a common concern for many individuals following the procedure. It is important to understand that some degree of swelling is expected after circumcision, as the body responds to the surgical trauma. However, if the swelling persists for more than a month, it may warrant further investigation.

Causes of Post-Circumcision Swelling
1. Surgical Trauma: The act of circumcision involves cutting away the foreskin, which can lead to inflammation and swelling as the body heals. This is a normal part of the healing process.

2. Infection: Although you mentioned that the wound is not painful, it is still possible to have a mild infection that may not present with significant pain but can cause swelling. Signs of infection can include redness, warmth, and discharge.

3. Fluid Accumulation: Sometimes, fluid can accumulate in the area due to the body's inflammatory response. This can lead to a condition known as seroma, where fluid collects in the tissue spaces.

4. Allergic Reaction: If you have been using any topical ointments or medications post-surgery, an allergic reaction could lead to localized swelling.

5. Underlying Conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as lymphatic issues or circulatory problems, can also contribute to prolonged swelling.

Concerns and Recommendations
- Duration of Swelling: While some swelling is normal, persistent swelling beyond four weeks should be evaluated. It is essential to consult with your healthcare provider to rule out any complications.

- Monitoring Symptoms: Keep an eye on any changes in symptoms. If you notice increased redness, warmth, or any discharge from the surgical site, these could be signs of infection that require immediate medical attention.

- Follow-Up Care: Ensure you attend any follow-up appointments with your surgeon or urologist. They can assess the healing process and determine if any interventions are necessary.

- Self-Care: In the meantime, you can manage swelling by applying cold compresses to the area, which may help reduce inflammation. Avoid any activities that could exacerbate the swelling, such as vigorous exercise or sexual activity until cleared by your doctor.

- Hydration and Diet: Staying well-hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet can support your body's healing process. Some individuals may find that certain dietary choices can affect inflammation levels in the body.

Conclusion
In summary, while some swelling after circumcision is normal, persistent swelling for over a month should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. It is crucial to monitor for any signs of infection or other complications. If you have concerns about your healing process, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for personalized advice and treatment options. Your health and comfort are paramount, and addressing these concerns early can lead to better outcomes.
