I have itching on my foreskin?
Hello Doctor: I have two questions I would like to ask you.
One is a recent issue that started about a week ago.
After having intercourse with my girlfriend, I began to feel an itch on the inner side of my foreskin (not the glans), which comes and goes.
I have examined it closely and have not noticed any unusual growths or other symptoms.
What could this possibly be? The second question is a concern I have had for over a decade, but I have not had the courage to see a doctor.
I have noticed many small, white, pimple-like bumps on the inner side of my foreskin.
They do not hurt or itch, and I have not experienced any significant discomfort over the years (they are difficult to notice unless looked at closely).
What could these be? I would greatly appreciate your insights to help alleviate my concerns.
Thank you very much!

Don't worry! Those white bumps might be papillomatous hyperplasia, which is harmless! However, the itching could be due to eczema or a fungal infection, so it's best to visit a urologist to have it checked out and to address your long-standing concerns.

More Info
Itchy foreskin can be a common concern among men, and it can arise from various causes. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing two distinct issues: the recent itchiness after sexual activity and the long-standing presence of white bumps on the inner foreskin.
Itchy Foreskin After Sexual Activity
The itchiness you are experiencing after intercourse could be attributed to several factors:
1. Irritation or Allergic Reaction: Sometimes, the use of certain lubricants, condoms, or even soaps can lead to irritation or an allergic reaction. If you used any new products during your sexual encounter, consider whether they could be the cause.
2. Infection: Fungal infections, such as candidiasis (commonly known as a yeast infection), can cause itchiness. This is particularly common in warm, moist areas. Bacterial infections or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) could also lead to similar symptoms, even if you do not see any visible lesions.
3. Dermatitis: Contact dermatitis, which is a reaction to irritants or allergens, can also cause localized itching. This could be due to personal care products or even laundry detergents.
4. Poor Hygiene: Inadequate cleaning of the genital area can lead to the accumulation of smegma, which can cause irritation and itching.
If the itchiness persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as redness, swelling, or discharge, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
White Bumps on the Inner Foreskin
Regarding the white bumps you have noticed for many years, these could be several things:
1. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are a normal anatomical variation and do not require treatment unless they cause discomfort or concern.
2. Fordyce Spots: These are small, painless, pale bumps that are sebaceous glands without hair follicles. They are completely normal and common in many men.
3. Sebaceous Cysts: These can occur when sebaceous glands become blocked. They are generally harmless and can be left alone unless they become inflamed or infected.
4. Other Conditions: While the above are common benign conditions, it is essential to rule out other possibilities, including genital warts or other infections, especially since you mentioned they have been present for a long time.
Recommendations
1. Consult a Urologist: Given your concerns about both the itchiness and the bumps, it would be wise to consult a urologist. They can perform a thorough examination and possibly run tests to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.
2. Maintain Hygiene: Ensure that you maintain good hygiene by cleaning the genital area gently with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh soaps or products that could irritate the skin.
3. Avoid Irritants: If you suspect that certain products may be causing irritation, try to avoid them and see if your symptoms improve.
4. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in your symptoms, including the appearance of the bumps or any new symptoms that may arise.
5. Open Communication: If you are sexually active, communicate with your partner about any symptoms you are experiencing, as this can help in managing any potential infections or irritations.
In summary, while both issues you are experiencing can be common, it is essential to seek professional medical advice to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. This will not only alleviate your concerns but also help maintain your overall sexual health.
