Struggling with Urological Issues: A Patient's Journey for Relief - Urology

Doctor, please help me!

Hello, doctor.
After a one-night stand with a girl, I noticed a small spot appeared on my glans about 2 to 3 days later.
The next day, I felt a sharp, stabbing pain in my glans and testicles, along with itching and a warm sensation.
I have seen many urologists, both in hospitals and private clinics, spending over 200,000 TWD.
Each doctor diagnosed me with different conditions, but there was no improvement.
After 3 to 4 months, I visited a private clinic in Kaohsiung, where the doctor diagnosed me with a Candida infection.
I was skeptical at first, but I decided to try different treatments.
The medication cost 450 TWD per day for a two-week supply.
After a few days, I noticed slight improvement in the stabbing pain and warmth.
I continued the treatment, and while there has been some improvement, it has been almost a year, and I still haven't fully recovered.
I have stopped the medication at times, but the symptoms always return, including the stabbing pain, itching, and warmth.
This issue has caused me to incur over 100,000 TWD in credit card debt.
If I don't take the prescribed medication, the symptoms flare up again.
Am I supposed to rely on this medication for the rest of my life? I feel so helpless.

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology

A-Ming: I think it started as urethritis, which was not completely cured and evolved into chronic urethritis.
It is very troublesome to treat and sometimes may not be completely curable.
I recommend going to a larger hospital for a re-examination and treatment.
Best regards, Dr.

It sounds like you are going through a very challenging time with your urological issues, and I want to acknowledge the frustration and distress that can come from dealing with persistent symptoms and the search for effective treatment. Based on your description, it seems you have been experiencing discomfort in the genital area, including pain, itching, and a burning sensation, which has not significantly improved despite extensive medical consultations and treatments.

Firstly, it’s important to understand that urological issues can stem from a variety of causes, including infections, inflammation, or even psychological factors. In your case, it appears that you have been diagnosed with a condition related to a fungal infection, specifically "Candida" (which you referred to as "紫囊菌"). This type of infection can sometimes cause symptoms like those you are experiencing, including itching, burning, and discomfort in the genital area.

The fact that you have seen multiple doctors and have undergone various treatments without significant improvement can be incredibly disheartening. It is not uncommon for patients with urological issues to feel like they are not getting the answers they need, especially when symptoms persist despite treatment. This can lead to a cycle of anxiety and frustration, which can further exacerbate symptoms.

Here are some considerations and recommendations that may help you navigate your situation:
1. Seek a Specialist: If you haven’t already, consider consulting a urologist who specializes in chronic urological conditions. They may have more experience with complex cases and could provide a fresh perspective on your symptoms.

2. Comprehensive Testing: Ensure that you have undergone comprehensive testing to rule out other potential causes of your symptoms, such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), urinary tract infections (UTIs), or other underlying conditions. Sometimes, a second opinion from a different specialist can be beneficial.

3. Medication Review: Since you mentioned that you have been on medication for nearly a year, it may be worth discussing with your doctor the possibility of reviewing your current treatment regimen. Some medications can have side effects that may contribute to ongoing discomfort, and your doctor may suggest alternative treatments or adjustments to your current medications.

4. Lifestyle Modifications: Consider lifestyle changes that may help alleviate symptoms. This can include dietary adjustments, maintaining proper hygiene, and avoiding irritants such as scented soaps or lotions. Staying hydrated and practicing safe sex can also be beneficial.

5. Psychological Support: Chronic health issues can take a toll on mental health. If you find that your symptoms are affecting your emotional well-being, it may be helpful to speak with a mental health professional. They can provide support and coping strategies to help you manage the stress and anxiety that often accompany chronic health conditions.

6. Patience and Persistence: Healing from chronic conditions can take time, and it’s important to remain patient with yourself throughout this process. Keep an open line of communication with your healthcare providers, and don’t hesitate to advocate for yourself if you feel your concerns are not being addressed.

7. Support Groups: Consider joining a support group for individuals with similar health issues. Sharing experiences with others who understand what you’re going through can provide emotional support and practical advice.

In conclusion, while it can be incredibly frustrating to deal with ongoing urological issues, it’s important to remain proactive in seeking the care you need. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help, whether it’s from medical professionals, mental health providers, or support groups. You deserve to find relief and regain control over your health and well-being.
