Consider whether to undergo circumcision?

Hello doctor, I would like to ask about my situation.
When I am not erect, my glans is completely covered by the foreskin.
I can fully retract the foreskin to expose the glans and clean it.
However, when I am erect, the foreskin does not automatically retract, but there is a small opening that allows me to see the glans.
If I try to pull the foreskin back manually, it feels tight like a rubber band and causes pain because the foreskin ring is a bit narrow.
Despite this, I can still ejaculate normally without the foreskin retracting on its own.
Doctor, does this situation necessarily require a circumcision?

Hello: The foreskin generally does not affect ejaculation.
The indications for circumcision are as follows: 1.
Recurrent balanitis (inflammation of the glans penis) 2.
Inability to clean the glans due to foreskin issues 3.
Foreskin that gets stuck, causing pain.
If it is simply a case of phimosis (excessively long foreskin), and the glans can be exposed by pulling back the foreskin, with no issues in cleaning or pain during intercourse, whether to undergo circumcision is a personal decision.
Thank you!

Circumcision is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the foreskin from the penis. It is a topic that often raises questions regarding necessity, benefits, and potential complications. In your case, it seems that you are experiencing some discomfort due to a tight foreskin, particularly during an erection, which may indicate a condition known as phimosis.
Phimosis is when the foreskin cannot be easily retracted over the glans (the head of the penis). This condition can be physiological in younger males, but if it persists into adulthood, it may require intervention. The symptoms you describe—pain when attempting to retract the foreskin, and the inability for the foreskin to retract on its own during an erection—are common indicators that you might benefit from circumcision.

Here are some considerations regarding circumcision and your situation:
1. Medical Necessity: If the tightness of your foreskin is causing pain or discomfort, especially during erections, circumcision may be recommended. This is particularly true if the condition interferes with sexual activity or hygiene. In some cases, less invasive treatments, such as topical steroid creams or preputioplasty (a procedure that loosens the foreskin without complete removal), may be options to consider.

2. Hygiene: One of the benefits of circumcision is that it can make genital hygiene easier. With the foreskin removed, it is easier to clean the glans, which can help prevent infections or conditions like balanitis (inflammation of the glans).

3. Sexual Function: Some men report changes in sexual sensation after circumcision. While some may experience decreased sensitivity, others find that it does not significantly affect their sexual pleasure. It’s important to discuss these concerns with your healthcare provider.

4. Cultural and Personal Factors: Circumcision is also influenced by cultural, religious, and personal beliefs. If you have strong feelings about the procedure based on these factors, it’s essential to consider them in your decision-making process.

5. Consultation with a Specialist: It is advisable to consult with a urologist or a healthcare provider who specializes in male reproductive health. They can provide a thorough examination, discuss your symptoms in detail, and help you weigh the pros and cons of circumcision versus other treatment options.

6. Potential Risks: Like any surgical procedure, circumcision carries risks, including bleeding, infection, and complications related to anesthesia. Understanding these risks is crucial in making an informed decision.

In conclusion, while circumcision may be a suitable option for you given your symptoms, it is not the only option available. A thorough discussion with a healthcare provider can help you explore all possible avenues, including conservative management strategies, and ultimately make the best decision for your health and well-being. If you are experiencing significant discomfort or if your symptoms worsen, seeking medical advice sooner rather than later is advisable.

Hello: 1) Surgery is not recommended in medical practice; maintaining cleanliness is key. 2) Sensitivity of the glans will still be present, but one will get used to it over time. 3) It varies from person to person. Wishing you good health.
