Kidney stones

Is there a hospital in Kaohsiung that has introduced the "extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy machine for stone tracking and targeting"? Otherwise, Hualien is quite far.
I currently have kidney stones from my health check-up and would like to find time to address this.
Thank you, doctor, for taking the time to respond! ^^~

Qi, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2006/06/05

Dr. Chen Zhirong reply Urology

Mr.
Chi: Currently, the only hospitals equipped with "extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy" in the western region are Chiayi Hospital and in the eastern region, Hualien Hospital.
If you don't mind, you can call in advance to schedule your lithotripsy appointment.
Wednesdays and Fridays are specifically designated for patients from other counties, allowing for morning consultations and afternoon procedures.
After the lithotripsy, there is typically no discomfort, and you can even arrange travel plans.
Thank you.

If you are looking for hospitals in Kaohsiung that offer Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) for kidney stones, you have several options to consider. ESWL is a non-invasive procedure that uses shock waves to break down kidney stones into smaller pieces, making them easier to pass through the urinary tract. It is a commonly used treatment for kidney stones and is available in many hospitals across Taiwan, including Kaohsiung.

To find a suitable hospital, you can start by checking with major medical centers in Kaohsiung. Some of the well-known hospitals that typically offer ESWL include:
1. Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital: This hospital is affiliated with Kaohsiung Medical University and is known for its comprehensive urology department. They are likely to have the necessary equipment and specialists for ESWL.

2. Chung Shan Medical University Hospital: Another reputable hospital in Kaohsiung that may offer ESWL services. It is advisable to contact them directly to inquire about their capabilities regarding kidney stone treatments.

3. Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital: This hospital is known for its advanced medical technologies and may provide ESWL as part of its urology services.

4. E-Da Hospital: This hospital is also a good option to consider, as it has a dedicated urology department that may offer ESWL.

5. Pingtung Christian Hospital: While not in Kaohsiung, it is relatively close and may offer the procedure if you are willing to travel a bit further.

When contacting these hospitals, it is essential to ask specifically about their ESWL services, the availability of appointments, and whether they have the latest technology for the procedure. You can also inquire about the qualifications and experience of the urologists who perform the procedure, as this can impact the success rate and your overall experience.

In addition to contacting hospitals directly, you may also want to consult with your primary care physician or a urologist for recommendations. They can provide guidance based on your specific health needs and may have insights into which hospitals have the best outcomes for ESWL.

It is also important to consider your health insurance coverage and whether the hospitals you are considering are within your network. This can help manage costs and ensure that you receive the necessary care without unexpected expenses.

Lastly, if you have any concerns about the procedure or your kidney stones, do not hesitate to ask questions during your consultations. Understanding the risks, benefits, and recovery process associated with ESWL can help you make an informed decision about your treatment options.

In summary, Kaohsiung has several hospitals that offer Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy for kidney stones. By reaching out to major medical centers and consulting with healthcare professionals, you can find the right facility to address your needs effectively.
