I have a question regarding acne?
Hello! I would like to ask you about acne because I have some.
I'm afraid to squeeze them myself, so I went for a facial.
However, a friend's mother said that it's actually unnecessary to have facials to extract them because our skin will gradually metabolize the acne over time, and even if we don't squeeze them out, they will eventually disappear.
She mentioned that frequently having facials and squeezing the skin might actually worsen the condition, and even having a professional esthetician remove the acne is the same.
I would like to know if this statement is correct.
If so, I won't want to go for facials anymore.
Thank you for your response, and I wish you a happy day! ^_^

Hello: The skin of the body naturally metabolizes and expels comedones over time, which is normal under conditions of proper skin structure and metabolism.
However, if there is an abnormal structure with excessively thick stratum corneum, the keratin plugs may not be easily expelled, leading to the potential development of inflammatory acne.
We usually recommend using keratolytic skincare products or medications to soften the keratin, making it easier for comedones to be expelled.
If the comedones still do not come out, we suggest manual extraction.
Sincerely, Dr.

When it comes to acne and the common practice of extracting it, there are several myths and misconceptions that need to be addressed. Your friend's mother's advice that the skin can naturally metabolize and eliminate acne over time is partially true, but it requires a nuanced understanding of how acne develops and how it can be treated effectively.
Acne is primarily caused by a combination of factors, including excess oil production, clogged pores, bacteria, and inflammation. When a pore becomes clogged with oil and dead skin cells, it can lead to the formation of comedones, which are the technical term for blackheads and whiteheads. While it is true that some minor acne lesions may resolve on their own over time, this is not the case for all types of acne, especially more severe forms like cystic acne.
The idea that extracting acne is unnecessary and can worsen the skin condition is a common belief. However, there are important considerations to keep in mind:
1. Professional Extraction vs. DIY: While it is generally not advisable to extract acne at home due to the risk of scarring, infection, and further inflammation, professional extraction performed by a licensed dermatologist or esthetician can be safe and effective. These professionals use sterile tools and techniques to minimize the risk of complications.
2. Potential for Scarring: Improper extraction can lead to scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially if the acne is inflamed or cystic. This is why many dermatologists recommend against squeezing pimples at home.
3. Natural Resolution: While some acne may resolve on its own, waiting for it to do so can lead to prolonged discomfort and potential scarring. In many cases, active treatment is necessary to prevent further breakouts and to promote healing.
4. Treatment Options: There are various treatments available for acne, including topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and oral medications like antibiotics or hormonal treatments. These options can help reduce inflammation, unclog pores, and prevent new acne from forming.
5. Skin Care Routine: Maintaining a proper skincare routine is crucial. This includes gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and using non-comedogenic products that won't clog pores. Regular exfoliation can also help remove dead skin cells and prevent clogged pores.
6. Consultation with a Dermatologist: If you are struggling with persistent acne, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist. They can provide personalized recommendations based on your skin type and the severity of your acne.
In conclusion, while it is true that some acne may resolve on its own, relying solely on this natural process is not always the best approach, especially for those with moderate to severe acne. Professional extraction can be beneficial when done correctly, and it is essential to adopt a comprehensive skincare regimen and consider medical treatments if necessary. If you are unsure about how to proceed, seeking advice from a dermatologist is the best course of action. They can help you navigate your options and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Remember, taking care of your skin is an investment in your overall health and well-being.
