Pain on the left side of the head?

Hello, Doctor: This symptom has been bothering me for a long time.
I used to experience frequent headaches during elementary and middle school, which were typical headaches with discomfort in the back of my neck.
Now, the symptoms are strange; when I have pain, only the left side hurts, while the right side is completely normal.
Besides the discomfort in the left side and back of my neck, the main issue is that my left eye feels particularly uncomfortable, feeling swollen.
Every time I have pain, I want to press on it or avoid using my left eye, and I even have thoughts of not wanting to rely on my left eye anymore.
Although the headache at the back of my head occurs simultaneously, I feel that the left eye discomfort triggers it.
Sometimes the pain lasts for 2 to 3 days unless I take over-the-counter pain relievers, which help alleviate it more quickly.
This situation can occur when I wake up with pain or suddenly feel discomfort in the afternoon after being fine in the morning.
Doctor, may I ask: 1.
What condition do I have? 2.
If I go to the hospital for an examination, which department should I see, neurology or ophthalmology? 3.
Below are the over-the-counter pain relievers recommended by the pharmacy.
I am unsure if there are any side effects or issues with taking them regularly.
Can I take Gewolen Tablets analgesic antipyretic Reg.

Left-sided head pain can be a complex issue, and understanding its causes and treatment options is essential for effective management. Based on your description, it seems that you have been experiencing recurrent headaches primarily on the left side, accompanied by discomfort in your left eye and neck. This pattern of pain can be indicative of several underlying conditions, and I will address your questions in detail.

1. What could be causing your symptoms?
The symptoms you describe could be attributed to several potential causes:
- Migraine: Migraines often present as unilateral (one-sided) headaches and can be associated with visual disturbances, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. The pain can be throbbing and may last from a few hours to several days. The discomfort in your left eye could be a symptom of a migraine, especially if you experience visual disturbances or aura before the headache.

- Tension-Type Headache: This type of headache is characterized by a dull, aching pain and a sensation of tightness or pressure across the forehead or back of the head and neck. It can also be unilateral and may be exacerbated by stress, poor posture, or muscle tension.

- Cervicogenic Headache: This type of headache originates from issues in the cervical spine (neck) and can cause pain that radiates to one side of the head, often accompanied by neck stiffness or discomfort.

- Cluster Headaches: These are severe headaches that occur in cyclical patterns or clusters, typically affecting one side of the head and often accompanied by eye symptoms, such as redness or tearing.

- Neuropathic Pain: Given your description of the pain's nature and the discomfort in your left eye, it could also be related to nerve involvement, such as trigeminal neuralgia or other forms of neuropathic pain.

2. Which specialist should you see?
Based on your symptoms, it would be advisable to consult a neurologist. A neurologist specializes in disorders of the nervous system, including headaches and migraines. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination, a review of your medical history, and possibly imaging studies (like MRI or CT scans) to rule out any serious underlying conditions. If your symptoms are primarily related to your eye, you may also consider seeing an ophthalmologist to rule out any ocular issues that could be contributing to your discomfort.

3. Regarding the analgesic medication you mentioned:
The medication you referred to, Gewolen Tablets, appears to be an analgesic and antipyretic, which is commonly used for pain relief and to reduce fever. However, without specific information about the active ingredients, it is difficult to comment on its safety and potential side effects. Generally, over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) are commonly used for headache relief. While these medications can be effective, they should be used as directed, and it's important to be cautious about long-term use, as it can lead to rebound headaches or other complications.

In conclusion, your left-sided head pain, particularly with associated eye discomfort, warrants a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional. A neurologist can help determine the underlying cause of your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatment options. In the meantime, keeping a headache diary to track the frequency, duration, and triggers of your headaches can be beneficial for your healthcare provider in making an accurate diagnosis. Remember to discuss any medications you are taking with your doctor to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your condition.
