Excessive sweating without odor?

Hello! I'm not sure if this question should be directed to a metabolic specialist, but I appreciate your help! My boyfriend is 24 years old, and he recently told me that while working with marble, he starts sweating profusely at the slightest heat.
It's not just a little sweat; it drips down continuously.
He also tried tasting his sweat, and it has no flavor.
Isn't sweat usually supposed to be salty? Should he see a doctor about this? Thank you!

Excessive sweating, medically known as hyperhidrosis, can be a concerning condition for many individuals. In your boyfriend's case, the fact that he experiences significant sweating without any accompanying odor is noteworthy. While sweating is a normal physiological response to heat, exercise, or stress, excessive sweating that occurs without a clear trigger can indicate an underlying issue that may warrant medical attention.

Hyperhidrosis can be classified into two main types: primary (or focal) hyperhidrosis and secondary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis typically affects specific areas of the body, such as the palms, feet, underarms, or face, and is often hereditary. It usually occurs without any underlying medical condition. Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, is more generalized and can be caused by various medical conditions, medications, or hormonal changes.

In your boyfriend's situation, the fact that he works in a physically demanding job (like working with marble) could contribute to increased sweating due to heat exposure. However, if he is sweating excessively even in cooler environments or without significant exertion, it may be worth exploring further. The absence of odor in his sweat is interesting, as sweat itself is generally odorless; the odor typically arises from bacteria on the skin breaking down sweat. This could suggest that his sweat glands are functioning normally, but the volume of sweat produced is excessive.

There are several potential causes for excessive sweating without odor, including:
1. Genetic Factors: Some individuals are genetically predisposed to hyperhidrosis, which can manifest as excessive sweating without any underlying health issues.

2. Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, such as those experienced during puberty, can lead to increased sweating. In younger adults, conditions like hyperthyroidism can also cause excessive sweating.

3. Diet and Lifestyle: Certain foods, beverages (like caffeine or alcohol), and lifestyle choices can trigger sweating. If your boyfriend has recently changed his diet or lifestyle, this could be a contributing factor.

4. Anxiety or Stress: Emotional factors can also lead to increased sweating. If your boyfriend is experiencing stress or anxiety related to work or other aspects of life, this could be a contributing factor.

5. Medical Conditions: Conditions such as diabetes, infections, or neurological disorders can also lead to excessive sweating.
Given these considerations, it would be advisable for your boyfriend to consult with a healthcare professional, particularly a specialist in endocrinology or dermatology, who can assess his symptoms in detail. A thorough evaluation may include a physical examination, a review of his medical history, and possibly some laboratory tests to rule out any underlying conditions.

In summary, while excessive sweating can sometimes be benign, the degree of sweating your boyfriend is experiencing, especially if it is impacting his daily life or causing discomfort, should not be ignored. A medical professional can provide guidance on potential treatments, which may include lifestyle modifications, prescription antiperspirants, or other interventions depending on the underlying cause. Encouraging him to seek medical advice would be a proactive step in addressing his symptoms and ensuring his overall health and well-being.
