What should I do?

I am eighteen years old, but I have not had sexual intercourse yet.
However, when I watch adult films and become erect, if I leave for a moment, I lose my erection.
I have been masturbating since I was around ten years old, sometimes doing it two to three times a day.
Although I have done it less frequently in the past year, I still do not feel mentally well.
I once tried to have intercourse with my girlfriend, but I don't know if it was due to anxiety or if my penis was not hard enough, but I couldn't penetrate.
When I tried to push harder, I ended up ejaculating.
After that, we broke up; she was my only girlfriend.
Please, doctors, I am only eighteen.
Is this problem erectile dysfunction, and how can it be treated effectively? Are there any other suggestions? Please help!

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology

Xiao Jie: Hello, at 18 years old, the most common reason is usually a lack of sexual experience rather than any physical issues.
From a Western medical perspective, masturbation does not affect sexual function at all.
As for erectile dysfunction, it may be necessary to consult a specialist for a detailed examination to determine the cause.
This is a response from Dr.
Hsu Wei-Kai, Director of Urology at Taitung Hospital, Department of Health, Executive Yuan.

Erectile issues at a young age, such as the ones you're experiencing at 18, can be concerning and may lead to feelings of anxiety or frustration. It's important to understand that erectile dysfunction (ED) can occur for various reasons, and it's not uncommon for young men to face such challenges, especially when they are under stress or pressure.

Possible Causes of Erectile Issues
1. Psychological Factors: Anxiety, stress, and performance pressure can significantly impact your ability to maintain an erection. The fear of not being able to perform can create a cycle of anxiety that makes the situation worse. This is particularly relevant in your case, as you mentioned feeling nervous during your attempt to have intercourse.

2. Physical Factors: While less common in younger individuals, physical issues such as hormonal imbalances, vascular problems, or neurological conditions can contribute to erectile dysfunction. However, these are typically less likely at your age unless there are underlying health issues.

3. Lifestyle Factors: Habits such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity can also affect erectile function. Additionally, excessive masturbation, especially if it leads to unrealistic expectations about sexual performance, can contribute to difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection.

4. Mental Health: Depression and anxiety disorders can also play a significant role in sexual health. If you're feeling mentally unwell, it can affect your libido and erectile function.

Solutions and Recommendations
1. Consult a Healthcare Professional: It’s crucial to speak with a healthcare provider who specializes in sexual health. They can help assess your situation, rule out any underlying medical conditions, and provide tailored advice.

2. Address Psychological Factors: Consider speaking with a therapist or counselor who specializes in sexual health or anxiety. They can help you work through any performance anxiety or stress that may be affecting your sexual function.

3. Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep can improve overall health and potentially enhance sexual function. Reducing alcohol intake and avoiding smoking can also be beneficial.

4. Communication with Partners: If you are in a relationship, open communication with your partner about your feelings and concerns can help alleviate some of the pressure you may be feeling. Understanding and support from a partner can make a significant difference.

5. Practice Relaxation Techniques: Techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can help reduce anxiety and improve your mental state, which may positively impact your sexual performance.

6. Limit Pornography Consumption: Excessive consumption of pornography can create unrealistic expectations about sex and may lead to difficulties in real-life sexual situations. Consider reducing your exposure to pornographic material.

7. Gradual Exposure: If you feel comfortable, gradually expose yourself to sexual situations without the pressure of performance. This can help desensitize you to anxiety and build confidence over time.

Conclusion
Erectile issues at a young age can be distressing, but they are often temporary and can be addressed with the right approach. By focusing on both physical and mental health, seeking professional guidance, and communicating openly with partners, you can work towards overcoming these challenges. Remember, it's essential to be patient with yourself as you navigate this aspect of your life.
