What is the likelihood of becoming pregnant this way?
My girlfriend's last menstrual period started on October 14, and the one before that was on September 16.
Based on her two menstrual cycles of 28 days, I calculated her ovulation period to be between October 26 and October 29.
I initially thought she would get her period on November 11.
We had sexual intercourse on November 12, and I assumed she would start her period, so I didn't use a condom, but I didn't ejaculate inside (I had used protection every time before, and the last sexual encounter was a week prior).
I ejaculated onto a tissue I had prepared.
Later, her period didn't arrive, and on November 15, we went to Cheng Kung University Hospital for a pregnancy test, which came back negative.
Is it really that expensive to test for pregnancy at Cheng Kung Hospital? It costs 600 NT dollars; is a pregnancy test really that costly? It has been a long time since her ovulation period, so is there still a chance of pregnancy? The doctor prescribed her medication to induce menstruation; is it true that she won't get her period while taking it?

Hello: If your menstrual period still hasn't arrived, remember to take a pregnancy test.
You can purchase a pregnancy test kit at the pharmacy to avoid the consultation fee.
Sincerely, Dr.

Understanding the chances of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse is a common concern for many couples. In your situation, several factors need to be considered to assess the likelihood of pregnancy accurately.
First, let’s clarify the menstrual cycle and ovulation. A typical menstrual cycle lasts about 28 days, but it can vary from person to person. Ovulation usually occurs around 14 days before the start of the next menstrual period. In your girlfriend's case, if her last menstrual period started on October 14, and you calculated her ovulation window to be between October 26 and October 29, this is a reasonable estimate.
You mentioned that you had unprotected intercourse on November 12, which is well after her estimated ovulation window. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, but since ovulation likely occurred around the end of October, the chances of sperm meeting an egg at that point are significantly reduced. Therefore, the likelihood of pregnancy from intercourse on November 12 is low, especially since you did not ejaculate inside her.
However, the absence of menstruation after the expected date can be concerning. It’s important to note that stress, hormonal imbalances, and other factors can also cause a delay in menstruation. The pregnancy test you took at Cheng Kung University Hospital on November 15 was a good step to confirm whether or not she is pregnant. If the test was negative, it suggests that she is not pregnant, especially considering the timing of your intercourse relative to her ovulation.
Regarding the cost of pregnancy tests, prices can vary significantly depending on the facility and the type of test performed. Some hospitals may charge more for comprehensive testing or for tests conducted in a clinical setting. It’s always a good idea to inquire about costs beforehand if you are concerned about expenses.
As for the medication prescribed by the doctor, if it was intended to induce menstruation or regulate her cycle, it is true that hormonal medications can affect the timing of her period. While on certain medications, it is possible for menstruation to be delayed or altered, which can lead to confusion about whether she is pregnant.
In summary, based on the information provided, the chances of pregnancy from the intercourse on November 12 are low, especially since it occurred after her ovulation window. The negative pregnancy test further supports this. If her period does not arrive soon, or if she continues to have concerns, it would be advisable for her to follow up with her healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. They can provide insights into her menstrual cycle, the effects of any medications she is taking, and any other underlying issues that may be affecting her cycle.
