Anomalies of the anal region?
Recently, I have been feeling a sensation of a foreign body at the anal opening.
Upon examining myself with a mirror, I noticed a depressed area near the anal opening extending towards the perineum.
When I contract my anus or close my legs, this area sinks in, while the surrounding tissue protrudes.
The depressed area is sometimes moist, which seems to be the cause of the foreign body sensation.
What could these symptoms indicate? Thank you, doctor.

Based on your description, it is possible that you have an anal fistula; however, a proper diagnosis can only be made through an in-person examination.
Please seek out a colorectal surgeon for evaluation and treatment as soon as possible.
Thank you.

The sensation of an unusual feeling around the anus, particularly the presence of a "foreign body" sensation, can be concerning and may arise from various underlying conditions. Given your description of a depression or indentation near the anus that becomes more pronounced with contraction or leg crossing, there are several potential causes to consider.
1. Hemorrhoids: One of the most common causes of discomfort or unusual sensations around the anus is hemorrhoids. These are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus that can cause symptoms such as itching, discomfort, and a feeling of fullness or pressure. If the hemorrhoids are external, they can sometimes be felt as lumps or protrusions, and if they are internal, they may cause a sensation of fullness or pressure.
2. Anal Fissures: An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus, which can lead to pain, bleeding, and discomfort. The sensation of a foreign body may arise from the irritation caused by the fissure, especially during bowel movements.
3. Skin Tags: After the resolution of hemorrhoids or other anal conditions, skin tags can develop. These are benign growths of skin that can create a sensation of something being present around the anus.
4. Abscess or Fistula: An anal abscess is a collection of pus that can form near the anus, often due to infection. This can lead to swelling, pain, and a feeling of pressure. An anal fistula, which is a small tunnel that develops between the end of the bowel and the skin near the anus, can also cause similar sensations.
5. Prolapse: In some cases, a rectal prolapse may occur, where part of the rectum protrudes through the anus. This can create a sensation of fullness or the feeling of a mass.
6. Inflammatory Conditions: Conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, can lead to inflammation in the anal area, resulting in discomfort and unusual sensations.
7. Neurological Issues: Sometimes, nerve-related issues can cause abnormal sensations in the anal region. Conditions affecting the pelvic nerves may lead to sensations that are not directly related to any physical abnormalities.
Given the variety of potential causes, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. A physical examination, possibly including a digital rectal exam, may be necessary to assess the area and identify any abnormalities. Depending on the findings, further diagnostic tests such as an ultrasound or colonoscopy may be warranted to rule out more serious conditions.
In the meantime, it may be helpful to monitor any additional symptoms you may experience, such as pain, bleeding, changes in bowel habits, or any other unusual sensations. Keeping a record of these symptoms can provide valuable information to your healthcare provider during your consultation.
In conclusion, while the sensation of a foreign body around the anus can be distressing, many potential causes are treatable. Seeking medical advice is the best course of action to ensure proper diagnosis and management.
