Improving Amblyopia: Seeking Treatment for Eccentric Fixation in Taiwan - Ophthalmology

Regarding the instruments for eccentric fixation!!!

After my strabismus surgery, I am currently undergoing "E-visual neurotraining" to improve the vision of my amblyopic eye.
Before the treatment, my vision was 0.16 to 0.2, but after 10 sessions of training, it has improved to 0.33 to 0.4.
However, I still have a long way to go to achieve good distance vision.
I also remember that I have a problem with eccentric fixation.
Recently, I consulted an optometrist who mentioned that I need to address the issue of eccentric fixation first in order to make my amblyopia training more effective.
I heard about a specialized device for treating and training eccentric fixation, referred to as "MIT." This device not only corrects eccentric fixation but also facilitates amblyopia training.
However, I have been told that there are very few of these devices in Taiwan, and the optometrist I visited does not have one.
I am wondering if you know of any specialists in Taiwan who focus on treating eccentric fixation or if there are facilities with the necessary equipment for my treatment.
It would be even better if it is in Taipei.
I am very eager and proactive about improving this issue.
If you have any information, could you please guide me? Thank you!

Amblyopia, commonly known as "lazy eye," is a visual development disorder where one eye fails to achieve normal visual acuity, often due to abnormal visual experience during early childhood. Eccentric fixation, a condition where the individual uses a non-foveal point of fixation, can complicate the treatment of amblyopia. Your proactive approach to improving your vision through "E-visual neuro training" is commendable, and it’s great to hear that you’ve seen some improvement in your visual acuity.

In terms of addressing eccentric fixation, it is indeed crucial to tackle this issue before making significant strides in amblyopia treatment. Eccentric fixation can hinder the effectiveness of amblyopia therapies, as it may prevent the brain from properly utilizing the visual input from the amblyopic eye. The use of specialized equipment, such as the "MIT" (Multisensory Integration Training) device, can be beneficial in correcting eccentric fixation while simultaneously training the amblyopic eye.

In Taiwan, there are several institutions and clinics that specialize in vision therapy and may have the necessary equipment for treating eccentric fixation and amblyopia. Here are some suggestions on how to proceed:
1. Consult with an Eye Specialist: It would be beneficial to consult with a pediatric ophthalmologist or a strabismus specialist who has experience in treating amblyopia and eccentric fixation. They can provide a comprehensive evaluation and recommend a tailored treatment plan.

2. Vision Therapy Clinics: Look for clinics that specialize in vision therapy. These clinics often employ various techniques and equipment to address visual disorders, including eccentric fixation. They may have access to the MIT device or similar technologies.

3. University Hospitals: Major hospitals affiliated with universities often have specialized departments for pediatric ophthalmology and vision therapy. They may have the latest technology and trained professionals who can assist with your condition.

4. Support Groups and Forums: Engaging with support groups or forums for individuals with amblyopia can provide valuable insights and recommendations for specialists or clinics that have successfully treated similar conditions.

5. Research and Referrals: Conducting online research for clinics in Taipei that focus on amblyopia and eccentric fixation can yield useful results. You may also ask your current eye care provider for referrals to specialists who have the necessary equipment and expertise.

6. Telemedicine Options: If you are unable to find local resources, consider telemedicine consultations with specialists who may provide guidance on treatment options and exercises that can be done at home.

In summary, addressing eccentric fixation is a vital step in your journey to improve your vision. By seeking out specialized care and utilizing the appropriate technologies, you can enhance the effectiveness of your amblyopia treatment. Remember to stay proactive and engaged in your treatment process, as your determination will play a significant role in your visual recovery. Good luck, and I hope you find the resources you need to achieve your vision goals!
