There is a lump on the inner thigh?
Hello Doctor: About 4 to 5 days ago, I woke up in the morning and suddenly felt pain in the inner side of my left thigh.
At first, I thought it was a strain or that I had bumped into something, so I didn't pay much attention.
However, I noticed that the pain has been increasing and swelling has developed, feeling like there is a lump.
It doesn't hurt much when sitting or lying down, but pressing on the lump and walking causes significant pain, and I am unable to walk upright.
Currently, the skin on the surface appears red in a circle, and when I touch the lump, the pain radiates from near the groin area towards the knee.
When I first noticed the pain in my thigh, I also experienced some other symptoms, such as a sensation similar to having a cold, with a tingling feeling when touching the skin on my back and arms.
This sensation has persisted over the past few days, especially noticeable at night.
Additionally, I have noticed that the color of my urine has been quite dark these past few days.
I'm unsure if this is related to a lymphatic issue or a problem with my urinary system.
Due to my work schedule, my daily routine is not very regular.
I hope you can provide some guidance, and I will seek medical attention as soon as I have the opportunity.

Dr. Cai Mengru reply Family Medicine
Dear Mr.
Joe: Based on your symptoms, the most likely condition that must be ruled out immediately is cellulitis, with a severe possibility of necrotizing fasciitis.
In serious cases, this could even lead to sepsis, posing a risk to life.
Therefore, it is crucial not to delay your condition and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
Sincerely, Dr.
Tsai Meng-Ju, Attending Physician, Department of Family Medicine, Taoyuan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

More Info
Inner thigh pain and swelling can be concerning, especially when accompanied by other symptoms such as changes in urination and skin sensitivity. Based on your description, there are several potential causes for your condition, and it is essential to consider these possibilities while also seeking medical attention.
1. Muscle Strain or Injury: One of the most common causes of sudden pain in the thigh area is a muscle strain. This can occur from activities that involve sudden movements or overexertion. However, since you mentioned that the pain has worsened and is accompanied by swelling and a hard lump, this may indicate a more serious issue.
2. Hematoma: If you have experienced any trauma to the area, even if you did not notice it at the time, a hematoma (a localized collection of blood outside of blood vessels) could form. This can lead to swelling, pain, and a hard lump. The fact that you feel pain when pressing on the lump suggests that it could be a hematoma.
3. Infection: The redness and swelling, along with the pain, could also indicate an infection, such as cellulitis. This is a bacterial skin infection that can cause swelling, redness, and warmth in the affected area. If the infection spreads, it can lead to more severe symptoms, including fever and systemic illness.
4. Lymphatic Issues: Given your mention of potential lymphatic problems, it is worth considering that lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) could be contributing to your symptoms. This can occur due to infections or other underlying conditions.
5. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Although less common, a blood clot in the deep veins of the leg can cause swelling, pain, and redness. DVT is a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention, especially if you experience symptoms such as swelling in one leg, warmth, and tenderness.
6. Nerve Issues: Conditions affecting the nerves, such as a pinched nerve in the back or pelvis, can also cause referred pain in the thigh. This may not necessarily cause swelling but can lead to discomfort and altered sensations.
7. Urinary Issues: The change in urine color you mentioned could indicate dehydration or a potential urinary tract infection (UTI). Dark urine can result from concentrated urine due to dehydration or other underlying conditions that may need to be evaluated.
Given these possibilities, it is crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible. A healthcare provider will likely perform a physical examination and may order imaging studies, such as an ultrasound or MRI, to assess the soft tissues and rule out serious conditions. Blood tests may also be necessary to check for signs of infection or other systemic issues.
In the meantime, here are some general recommendations to manage your symptoms until you can see a doctor:
- Rest: Avoid putting weight on the affected leg to prevent further injury.
- Ice: Apply ice packs to the swollen area for 15-20 minutes every few hours to reduce swelling and pain.
- Elevation: Keep your leg elevated to help decrease swelling.
- Hydration: Ensure you are drinking enough fluids, especially if you notice changes in your urine color.
Remember, while these suggestions may provide temporary relief, they are not a substitute for professional medical evaluation and treatment. Your symptoms warrant prompt attention to ensure a proper diagnosis and appropriate care.
