Regarding glans issues?
Hello, doctor: I would like to ask, I wash my genital area daily, but shortly after washing, the foreskin covers the glans (it usually covers completely, but not when erect).
After a while, the glans and the foreskin become a bit sticky, but there is no odor or discharge.
However, if I expose it to air, it dries up and the skin on the glans becomes wrinkled.
What could this issue be?

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Hello, the oil on the glans has been washed away by cleaning products, which is why it appears wrinkled.
Generally, to clean the glans, it is recommended to use cold water without any cleaning products, and avoid using very hot water.
Cleaning products, such as soap, may excessively remove oils, leading to dryness and cracking of the glans.
If possible, using some baby lotion or baby oil can help improve the condition.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask, and we can discuss and research together.

When it comes to glans sensitivity and hygiene in men, it's important to understand that the penis, particularly the glans (the head of the penis), is a sensitive area that can be affected by various factors, including hygiene practices, skin conditions, and individual anatomical differences. Based on your description, it appears that you are experiencing some common concerns related to glans sensitivity and hygiene.
Firstly, the sensation of stickiness or a slight moistness on the glans and the foreskin after washing is not uncommon. This can be attributed to a few factors:
1. Natural Secretions: The penis produces natural oils and secretions that can accumulate under the foreskin. These secretions are normal and serve to keep the skin lubricated. If you are not experiencing any unusual odor or discharge, this is likely a normal occurrence.
2. Moisture Retention: After washing, if the area is not allowed to dry completely, moisture can be retained, leading to a sticky feeling. It is advisable to ensure that the area is thoroughly dried after washing to minimize this sensation.
3. Foreskin Functionality: The foreskin serves to protect the glans and keep it moist. In some cases, if the foreskin covers the glans for extended periods, it can lead to a buildup of moisture and natural secretions, which may contribute to the sticky feeling. When you retract the foreskin, allowing the glans to air out, it can help alleviate this sensation.
4. Skin Sensitivity: The glans is covered by a mucous membrane, which is sensitive and can react to various stimuli, including moisture and friction. If you notice that the glans becomes "wrinkled" or "dry" after exposure to air, this is a normal physiological response as the skin adjusts to different conditions.
5. Hygiene Practices: While you mention that you wash daily, it’s important to ensure that you are using mild, non-irritating soaps and that you rinse thoroughly. Over-washing or using harsh soaps can lead to irritation or dryness, which may exacerbate sensitivity.
If you are not experiencing any pain, unusual discharge, or persistent odor, it is likely that what you are experiencing is within the realm of normal. However, if you have concerns about sensitivity, hygiene, or any changes in your genital area, it is always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional, such as a urologist. They can provide a thorough examination and address any specific concerns you may have.
In summary, the stickiness you are experiencing after washing is likely due to natural secretions and moisture retention, which can be managed by ensuring proper drying and gentle hygiene practices. If symptoms persist or worsen, seeking medical advice is recommended to rule out any underlying conditions.
