There is fluid accumulation on the right side of the throat?
About a month ago, I discovered a swelling approximately 3 centimeters in size on the right side of my throat.
Upon examination, a yellow fluid mixed with dark blood was extracted.
Additionally, I have previously had yellow fluid drained from my left outer ankle (which tends to reoccur after some time).
Dr.
Yang, could you please advise which part of the body might be problematic?

Dr. Yang Hongzhi reply Internal Medicine
Hello: If the lesions are on the skin, a dermatologist can be consulted for treatment.
If the lesions are in the throat or oral cavity, an otolaryngologist can provide care.
If the lesions in the ankle are within the joint, an orthopedic or rheumatology specialist can be consulted.
Currently, it is difficult to determine if there are any specific issues based on the clinical condition.

Throat swelling and fluid accumulation can be concerning symptoms that may indicate underlying health issues. Based on your description, it seems you have experienced swelling on the right side of your throat, which was accompanied by the extraction of a yellowish fluid mixed with dark blood. Additionally, you mentioned a similar occurrence of fluid accumulation in your left ankle.
The swelling in your throat could be due to several potential causes. One common reason for localized swelling in the throat area is the presence of a cyst or abscess. An abscess is a collection of pus that can form due to infection, while a cyst is a sac-like structure that can be filled with fluid, pus, or other material. The yellowish fluid you described could indicate an infection or inflammation, especially if it was mixed with blood.
Another possibility is that the swelling could be related to lymphatic issues. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in fluid balance and immune response. If there is an obstruction or infection in the lymph nodes in the neck, it could lead to swelling and fluid accumulation. Conditions such as lymphadenitis (inflammation of the lymph nodes) or lymphatic obstruction could be contributing factors.
The fluid accumulation in your ankle could also be linked to several conditions. Edema, or swelling due to fluid retention, can occur for various reasons, including heart failure, kidney issues, liver disease, or venous insufficiency. If you have a history of similar swelling in your ankle, it may suggest a chronic condition that needs to be evaluated further.
Given that you have experienced these symptoms in different parts of your body, it is essential to consider systemic conditions that could be affecting your overall health. Conditions such as autoimmune disorders, infections, or even certain types of cancer can lead to fluid accumulation and swelling in various areas.
It is crucial to follow up with your healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation. They may recommend imaging studies, blood tests, or further examinations to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. Additionally, if you notice any changes in your symptoms, such as increased swelling, pain, or fever, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly.
In summary, the swelling in your throat and the fluid accumulation in your ankle could be indicative of various underlying health issues, ranging from localized infections to systemic conditions. A thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is necessary to identify the cause and determine the appropriate treatment.
