White discharge from the nipple?

Hello, I am a 20-year-old male.
I noticed that my left nipple has been slightly more protruded.
This morning, I discovered that I could squeeze out some white discharge from the left nipple; it's not liquid, but more like a white, creamy substance similar to squeezing a pimple.
I can still squeeze out a little bit in the evening.
Some people say it might just be a normal sebaceous secretion, but I am still a bit worried.
I would like to know if this is a serious issue.
Thank you!

Generally, this is a physiological structure like a pimple.
If it does not worsen (for example, becoming ulcerated or turning into a tumor) and flattens out, it can be monitored.
If it worsens, then a doctor should be consulted.

It's understandable to be concerned about any unusual changes in your body, especially when it comes to something as sensitive as breast tissue. In young men, the presence of white discharge from the nipple can be alarming, but there are several potential explanations that are generally not serious.

Firstly, it's important to note that male breast tissue can undergo changes due to hormonal fluctuations. Conditions such as gynecomastia, which is the enlargement of breast tissue in males, can occur during puberty and can sometimes lead to the development of discharge. This is often due to an imbalance between testosterone and estrogen levels in the body. In most cases, gynecomastia is benign and may resolve on its own over time.

The white discharge you describe, which resembles a thick, creamy substance, could also be related to sebaceous glands in the breast area. These glands can produce a substance called sebum, which is a natural oil that helps to lubricate the skin. Sometimes, these glands can become clogged, leading to the formation of a white, pimple-like discharge when pressure is applied.

Another possibility is that the discharge could be related to a condition known as galactorrhea, which is the inappropriate production of milk-like fluid from the nipple. This condition can occur in men due to various reasons, including hormonal imbalances, certain medications, or even stress. If the discharge is persistent or accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, swelling, or changes in the breast tissue, it would be wise to seek medical advice.

While the discharge itself may not be indicative of a serious condition, it is essential to monitor any changes in your body. If you notice an increase in the amount of discharge, changes in color, or any discomfort, it would be prudent to consult with a healthcare professional. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend further tests, such as blood tests to check hormone levels or imaging studies if necessary.

In summary, while the presence of white discharge from the nipple in young men can be concerning, it is often related to benign conditions such as hormonal changes or sebaceous gland activity. However, if you have any doubts or if the symptoms persist, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. Taking proactive steps in understanding your body and seeking medical advice when needed is crucial for maintaining your health and peace of mind.
