Complete ligament rupture?

Hello, I experienced a sudden power outage while taking a shower, which startled me.
At that moment, I was washing my genital area (I am male) and my frenulum was completely torn! I later took anti-inflammatory medication, and it healed naturally.
However, I have since noticed issues with penile erections; when watching adult films, I can only maintain an erection for a few minutes before it becomes soft again (this is a serious issue for me).
I initially thought it would improve over time, but it has only gotten worse.
Now, almost a year has passed.
Could this lead to any long-term effects? Do you have any recommendations? Thank you very much; I look forward to your response.

Hello, sir: Thank you for your inquiry.
I would like to respond to your question and provide the following advice: If it is merely a simple ligament tear, it should not affect your erectile function.
Therefore, your erectile dysfunction may be psychogenic in nature.
I recommend that you visit a urology clinic for a thorough examination by a physician, which will allow for better guidance.
Lastly, I wish you peace and happiness!

More Info

A frenulum tear, particularly in the context of the male anatomy, can have various implications for erectile function and overall sexual health. The frenulum, a band of tissue located on the underside of the penis, plays a significant role in sexual arousal and sensitivity. When this tissue is torn, especially if it is a complete tear, it can lead to both physical and psychological effects that may impact erectile function.

Physical Implications
1. Healing Process: After a frenulum tear, the body typically undergoes a natural healing process. However, if the tear was severe, it could lead to scarring or changes in the tissue structure. Scarring can affect the elasticity and sensitivity of the frenulum, which may alter the way stimulation is perceived during sexual activity.

2. Sensitivity Changes: The frenulum is one of the most sensitive areas of the penis. A tear can lead to decreased sensitivity in that region, which may affect the ability to achieve or maintain an erection. If the sensitivity is diminished, it may take more stimulation to achieve the same level of arousal as before the injury.

3. Psychological Effects: The experience of a traumatic injury, such as a frenulum tear, can lead to anxiety or fear surrounding sexual performance. This psychological aspect can create a cycle where anxiety about erectile function leads to difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection, further exacerbating the problem.

4. Inflammation and Pain: If the tear was accompanied by inflammation or pain, this could also contribute to erectile dysfunction. Pain during arousal or sexual activity can lead to avoidance behaviors, which can further impact sexual function.

Recommendations
1. Consult a Specialist: Given that you have been experiencing issues for nearly a year, it is advisable to consult a urologist or a sexual health specialist. They can provide a thorough examination and determine if there are any underlying issues that need to be addressed.

2. Physical Therapy: In some cases, pelvic floor physical therapy can help improve erectile function. A specialist can guide you through exercises that strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which can enhance erectile function.

3. Psychological Support: If anxiety or psychological factors are contributing to your erectile dysfunction, speaking with a mental health professional who specializes in sexual health may be beneficial. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can help address performance anxiety and improve sexual confidence.

4. Medication: If the issue persists, discussing the possibility of medications that enhance erectile function, such as phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (e.g., Viagra, Cialis), with your healthcare provider may be an option. These medications can help improve blood flow to the penis and facilitate erections.

5. Lifestyle Changes: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can also positively impact erectile function. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and stress management techniques can all contribute to improved sexual health.

Conclusion
While a frenulum tear can lead to complications regarding erectile function, many factors contribute to this issue. The healing process, changes in sensitivity, psychological impacts, and potential scarring all play a role. Seeking professional guidance is crucial to address these concerns effectively. With appropriate interventions, many individuals find improvement in their erectile function and overall sexual health.
