Torn foreskin?
I have a crack inside the foreskin that looks like chapped lips.
I can only see it when I fully retract the foreskin, and there is a little bleeding.
The wound seems to secrete a thick substance that might be pus, and it has a foul odor! However, everything else feels normal.
Cleaning does not hurt, and there is no pain when urinating.
Is this balanoposthitis? Should I see a doctor quickly? Thank you!

More Info
Foreskin cracks, particularly those that resemble chapped lips and are accompanied by symptoms such as bleeding and discharge, can be concerning and warrant medical attention. Based on your description, it sounds like you may be experiencing a condition known as balanitis, which is inflammation of the glans (the head of the penis) and can involve the foreskin as well. The presence of a crack or fissure, along with the discharge that has a foul odor, suggests that there may be an infection present, possibly a bacterial or fungal infection.
Symptoms to Watch For
1. Cracks or Fissures: The presence of a crack in the foreskin can be due to dryness, irritation, or infection. It’s important to monitor the size and depth of the crack.
2. Discharge: The thick, foul-smelling discharge you mentioned is particularly concerning. This could indicate an infection, such as a bacterial infection or a yeast infection (candidiasis).
3. Bleeding: Any bleeding from the area, especially if it is persistent or worsening, should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
4. Pain or Discomfort: While you mentioned that cleaning and urination do not cause pain, any discomfort in the area should be noted.
5. Odor: A foul odor is often a sign of infection and should not be ignored.
When to See a Doctor
Given your symptoms, it is advisable to see a doctor as soon as possible. Here are some reasons why you should seek medical attention:
- Persistent Symptoms: If the symptoms do not improve or worsen over time, it is crucial to get a professional evaluation.
- Signs of Infection: The presence of discharge, especially if it is thick and foul-smelling, could indicate an infection that may require antibiotics or antifungal treatment.
- Bleeding: Any bleeding from the area should be assessed to rule out more serious conditions.
- Pain or Discomfort: Even if you are not currently experiencing pain, changes in symptoms can occur, and it’s better to be proactive.
Possible Conditions
1. Balanitis: This is the inflammation of the glans and can be caused by poor hygiene, infections, or skin conditions. Treatment typically involves good hygiene practices and may require topical medications.
2. Balanoposthitis: This is the inflammation of both the glans and the foreskin, often associated with infections.
3. Fungal Infections: Conditions like candidiasis can lead to similar symptoms and may require antifungal treatment.
4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Some STIs can present with similar symptoms, so it’s important to discuss your sexual history with your doctor.
Conclusion
In summary, while it may be tempting to wait and see if the symptoms resolve on their own, the combination of a crack, discharge, and odor suggests that you should seek medical attention promptly. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination, possibly run tests to determine the cause of your symptoms, and recommend appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help prevent complications and ensure a quicker recovery. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
