Nasal issues
Sometimes my nose itches.
If I press my nose to the left, will the tip of my nose become crooked? I have previously had sinusitis.

Hello, Miss: The tip of the nose is composed of cartilage and skin, and it is generally very elastic.
Unless subjected to strong external force causing a fracture, simply pressing on it will not cause it to become misaligned.
However, the swelling of your nose may be due to allergies, and it is recommended that you seek medical evaluation.

More Info
It sounds like you're experiencing a combination of nasal itching and concerns related to sinusitis, as well as some structural issues with your nose. Let's break down your symptoms and concerns to better understand what might be happening and how to address it.
Understanding Your Symptoms
1. Itchy Nose: An itchy nose can be caused by several factors, including allergies, irritants, or even dry air. Allergic rhinitis is a common condition where allergens (like pollen, dust mites, or pet dander) trigger an immune response, leading to symptoms such as itching, sneezing, and nasal congestion. If you notice that your symptoms worsen during certain seasons or in specific environments, allergies could be a significant factor.
2. Nasal Pressure and Deviation: You mentioned that pressing on your nose causes discomfort and that your nose appears to be deviating to one side. This could indicate a structural issue, such as a deviated septum or nasal polyps. A deviated septum occurs when the cartilage and bone that divide the nasal cavity are off-center, which can lead to difficulty breathing, chronic sinusitis, and other nasal symptoms.
3. History of Sinusitis: Having a history of sinusitis can complicate your current symptoms. Chronic sinusitis can lead to inflammation and swelling of the nasal passages, which may contribute to both nasal itching and pressure. If you've had recurrent sinus infections, it might be worth discussing with your healthcare provider whether you need further evaluation or treatment options.
Recommendations for Management
1. Allergy Testing: If you suspect that allergies are contributing to your itchy nose, consider getting tested for specific allergens. This can help identify triggers and guide treatment. Over-the-counter antihistamines can provide relief from itching and other allergy symptoms.
2. Nasal Saline Irrigation: Regularly using a saline nasal spray or performing nasal irrigation can help keep your nasal passages moist and clear of irritants. This is particularly beneficial if you live in a dry climate or during the winter months when indoor heating can dry out the air.
3. Consult an ENT Specialist: Given your history of sinusitis and the current symptoms, it would be wise to consult an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist. They can perform a thorough examination, possibly including a nasal endoscopy, to assess the internal structures of your nose and sinuses. If a deviated septum or polyps are present, they may recommend surgical options to correct these issues.
4. Avoid Irritants: Try to identify and avoid any irritants that may be exacerbating your symptoms. This includes smoke, strong odors, and pollutants. Keeping your living space clean and using air purifiers can also help reduce exposure to allergens.
5. Consider Medication: If your symptoms are severe or persistent, your doctor may prescribe corticosteroid nasal sprays to reduce inflammation or other medications to manage your symptoms more effectively.
Conclusion
Your symptoms of an itchy nose, nasal pressure, and a history of sinusitis warrant a comprehensive evaluation to determine the underlying causes and appropriate treatment. Addressing potential allergies, maintaining nasal hygiene, and consulting with an ENT specialist will be key steps in managing your condition effectively. Remember, it's essential to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about all your symptoms and concerns to develop a tailored treatment plan that works for you.
