There are small red spots on the surface of the glans that resemble broken skin?

Hello doctor, first of all, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
I appreciate it.
I often notice small red circular spots on the surface of my glans, which look like mouth sores but without any indentation in the center.
Initially, I thought it was just a skin abrasion and didn't pay much attention to it.
I frequently apply antifungal ointments, which seem to help a bit, but after a few days, the spots become noticeable again, and they often itch.
The location is near the corona of the glans, close to the shaft of the penis.
Have you encountered similar cases before? How should I manage this? Could you recommend any other medications? I would be very grateful.

It is recommended to consult a physician for professional judgment before deciding on medication use, and self-purchasing and applying medication is not advised.

More Info

Red spots on the glans, or the head of the penis, can be concerning and may arise from various causes. It's important to understand the potential reasons behind these symptoms, as well as the appropriate treatment options available.

Possible Causes
1. Irritation or Allergic Reaction: The skin on the glans is sensitive and can react to various irritants, including soaps, detergents, or personal care products. An allergic reaction can lead to red spots and itching.

2. Infections: Fungal infections, such as candidiasis (yeast infection), can cause red spots and itching. Bacterial infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes or syphilis, can also present with similar symptoms.

3. Dermatitis: Conditions like contact dermatitis or eczema can lead to red, itchy spots on the glans. This may occur due to friction, moisture, or allergens.

4. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, benign bumps that can appear on the glans and are often mistaken for lesions. They are harmless and do not require treatment.

5. Lichen Planus or Lichen Sclerosus: These are inflammatory skin conditions that can affect the genital area, leading to red spots, itching, and discomfort.

Symptoms to Monitor
- Itching or Burning: If the red spots are accompanied by itching or a burning sensation, this may indicate an infection or irritation.

- Discharge: Any unusual discharge from the penis should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

- Pain or Discomfort: Persistent pain or discomfort in the area warrants medical attention.

- Changes in Appearance: If the spots change in size, color, or shape, or if new symptoms develop, it’s essential to seek medical advice.

Recommended Actions
1. Consult a Healthcare Professional: It's crucial to see a doctor or a urologist for a proper diagnosis. They may perform a physical examination and possibly recommend tests to determine the underlying cause.

2. Avoid Self-Medicating: While antifungal creams may provide temporary relief, they may not address the root cause of the problem. Using inappropriate medications can sometimes worsen the condition.

3. Maintain Hygiene: Keep the area clean and dry. Avoid using harsh soaps or products that may irritate the skin.

4. Use Barrier Methods: If sexually active, consider using condoms to reduce the risk of transmitting infections and to protect sensitive skin.

5. Topical Treatments: Depending on the diagnosis, a healthcare provider may prescribe topical corticosteroids for inflammation, antifungal creams for yeast infections, or other specific treatments based on the identified cause.

Conclusion
Red spots on the glans can arise from various conditions, ranging from benign to more serious issues. Given the recurring nature of your symptoms and the associated itching, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly. A healthcare professional can provide an accurate diagnosis and recommend the most effective treatment plan tailored to your specific situation. Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes and relief from discomfort.
