Inquire about menstrual cycle issues?
In the past six months, during each menstrual period, for example, on July 24, the first day of my period, I experienced heavy flow on July 25 and 26, requiring a pad change every 1.5 hours.
By the fifth day, July 28, it seemed to have stopped, but on the sixth day, July 29, I noticed bright red blood again, although the flow was not heavy.
On the seventh day, July 30, it appeared to have stopped, but I felt like there was some leakage of urine or an unknown fluid.
Is this normal, and should I get tested?

The uterus appears to have poor contractions, and an ultrasound can be used to check for the possibility of fibroids, especially submucosal fibroids.
Endometrial shedding and bleeding may not always occur simultaneously, but a timeframe of 2-8 days before and after is generally considered normal.
If there are blood clots that remain for a period, serous fluid may leak out, which is likely the cause.
Regardless, if there are any abnormalities, it is best to go to the hospital for an examination!

Irregular menstrual cycles can be a source of concern for many women, especially when accompanied by unusual symptoms such as heavy bleeding, prolonged periods, or unexpected spotting. Based on your description, it seems that you have been experiencing significant fluctuations in your menstrual cycle over the past six months, with heavy bleeding on certain days and unexpected bleeding on others. Let's break down your concerns and discuss when it might be appropriate to seek medical advice.
1. Understanding Irregular Menstrual Cycles: Menstrual cycles can vary widely among women and can be influenced by a range of factors including hormonal changes, stress, diet, exercise, and underlying health conditions. A typical menstrual cycle lasts between 21 to 35 days, with bleeding lasting from 2 to 7 days. However, cycles can become irregular due to various reasons, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, uterine fibroids, or even lifestyle changes.
2. Heavy Bleeding and Prolonged Periods: The fact that you are experiencing heavy bleeding that requires frequent changing of sanitary products (every 1.5 hours) is concerning. This could indicate menorrhagia, which is defined as excessive menstrual bleeding. Heavy bleeding can lead to anemia, fatigue, and other health issues if not addressed. Additionally, the occurrence of bleeding on what seems to be the sixth day of your cycle, followed by unusual discharge, raises questions about the regularity and health of your menstrual cycle.
3. Spotting and Discharge: The presence of bright red blood after what appears to be the end of your period, along with the sensation of leakage or unusual discharge, could indicate several possibilities. It might be a sign of ovulation bleeding, hormonal fluctuations, or even an underlying condition such as endometriosis or fibroids. It is not uncommon for women to experience spotting between periods, but if this is new for you or if it is accompanied by discomfort, it warrants further investigation.
4. When to Seek Medical Advice: Given the symptoms you have described, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare provider. You should seek medical advice if:
- You experience heavy menstrual bleeding that soaks through one or more sanitary pads or tampons every hour for several hours.
- Your periods last longer than 7 days.
- You have severe pain during your menstrual cycle.
- You notice any unusual discharge, especially if it is accompanied by a foul odor or other symptoms like itching or burning.
- You experience significant fatigue or symptoms of anemia (such as dizziness, weakness, or shortness of breath).
5. Potential Tests and Evaluations: When you visit a healthcare provider, they may recommend several tests to determine the cause of your irregular cycles and heavy bleeding. These could include:
- A pelvic exam to check for any abnormalities.
- Blood tests to assess hormone levels, iron levels, and overall health.
- An ultrasound to visualize the uterus and ovaries for any structural issues.
- A hysteroscopy or endometrial biopsy if there are concerns about the lining of the uterus.
In conclusion, while some variations in menstrual cycles can be normal, the symptoms you are experiencing suggest that it would be prudent to seek medical evaluation. Early diagnosis and treatment can help manage any underlying conditions and improve your overall health and quality of life. Remember, your health is important, and addressing these concerns with a healthcare professional is the best course of action.
