Foreskin Issues: Should You Consider Circumcision? - Urology

The penis is covered by skin..?

My penis is covered by the foreskin, and when not erect, it measures only about four centimeters! Will circumcision improve this? During swimming class, it seems like all the other boys are more visible, while I feel like mine is just flat and not noticeable at all.
When not erect, the entire glans is covered by the foreskin, but when erect, the glans is fully exposed.
Sometimes I have to push the skin back, but my scrotum seems to be hanging low because the skin is too long.
Is this excess skin caused by masturbation?

Hello Mr.
Y: Your penile length is normal; however, due to excess fat around the pubic area, much of the penis is buried, making it appear shorter.
If you push down the fat, you will see that your penile length is actually normal.
Regular exercise, such as sit-ups, is essential to reduce the fat over your pubic bone, which is the fundamental solution; circumcision generally does not help.
The cremaster muscle is located along the spermatic cord, and there is a thin layer of muscle under the skin of the scrotum that contracts in response to various conditions, such as sexual arousal or cold temperatures, which prevents the sensation of testicular sagging.
Of course, it is important to be aware of other potential causes of testicular sagging, such as varicocele or masses in the testis or epididymis.

When considering foreskin issues and the potential for circumcision, it’s important to understand both the anatomical and psychological aspects involved. The concerns you’ve raised about the appearance of your penis when flaccid, as well as the functionality and comfort of your foreskin, are common among many individuals.
Firstly, it’s essential to clarify that the length of the penis when flaccid can vary significantly among individuals, and it does not necessarily correlate with size when erect. The foreskin, which covers the glans (the head of the penis), can sometimes lead to concerns about visibility and aesthetics, especially in social situations such as swimming.
Circumcision, the surgical removal of the foreskin, can indeed change the appearance of the penis when flaccid. For some, this procedure may enhance comfort and hygiene, as it eliminates the need to retract the foreskin for cleaning. Additionally, circumcision can prevent certain medical issues, such as phimosis (a condition where the foreskin cannot be retracted) or recurrent infections.
However, it’s crucial to weigh the benefits against the risks. Circumcision is a surgical procedure that carries risks such as bleeding, infection, and complications related to anesthesia. Moreover, it’s important to consider the psychological impact of such a decision. Many men feel a sense of loss regarding their foreskin, which can affect their sexual experience and self-image.

Regarding your concerns about the length of your scrotum and whether it is related to masturbation, it’s important to note that the appearance of the scrotum can change due to various factors, including genetics, age, and hormonal influences. Masturbation itself does not cause changes in the length of the scrotum or the penis.
If you are experiencing discomfort or functional issues related to your foreskin, it may be beneficial to consult with a urologist. They can provide a thorough examination and discuss your options, including the possibility of circumcision or other treatments that may address your concerns without the need for surgery.

In summary, circumcision can improve certain aspects of hygiene and comfort, but it is a personal decision that should be made after careful consideration of the potential benefits and risks. Consulting with a healthcare professional will provide you with tailored advice based on your specific situation and help you make an informed decision.
