Could it be embryonic atrophy?
Hello Doctor: I got my period on March 9 and took ovulation medication.
I received an ovulation trigger shot on March 21 and had intercourse on March 22.
On April 3, I took a pregnancy test and saw a faint second line.
Later, on April 7, I went to Tai An for a pregnancy test, and the doctor confirmed that I was pregnant.
However, yesterday I visited a clinic due to inflammation from a Pap smear, and the doctor conducted another pregnancy test, which came back negative.
The doctor advised me to have an ultrasound in a few days and prescribed progesterone for me to take.
When I tested at home later, the result was also negative.
However, I have not experienced any discomfort or bleeding.
Doctor, does this mean that the embryo has deteriorated, or is there still a chance? Thank you.

Hello, a positive pregnancy test indicates a likely pregnancy, but if it turns negative a few days later, the chances of being pregnant may be low.
However, before your period arrives, it is advisable to continue monitoring the situation.
If you have any concerns, you can consult a common obstetrician-gynecologist.
Best wishes, Dr.

Early pregnancy loss, often referred to as miscarriage, can be a distressing experience for many women. Understanding the signs, potential causes, and next steps is crucial for managing this situation effectively.
In your case, it appears that you initially received a positive pregnancy test after a series of fertility treatments, which is encouraging. However, the subsequent negative tests and the absence of any symptoms such as bleeding or discomfort raise several possibilities.
First, it's important to note that early pregnancy tests can sometimes yield false positives or false negatives. A false positive can occur due to leftover pregnancy hormone (hCG) in your system from a previous pregnancy or from certain medications. Conversely, a false negative can happen if the test is taken too early, as hCG levels may not be high enough to detect.
The fact that you have not experienced any bleeding or discomfort is a positive sign, as many women who experience a miscarriage often report symptoms such as cramping or bleeding. However, the negative tests are concerning and suggest that the pregnancy may not be viable.
The next steps typically involve monitoring your hCG levels through blood tests. If your levels are decreasing, it may indicate a miscarriage. If they are stable or increasing, there may still be a chance for the pregnancy to continue. An ultrasound can also provide valuable information about the status of the pregnancy, including whether a gestational sac or embryo is developing appropriately.
Regarding the use of progesterone (黄体素), it is often prescribed to support early pregnancy, especially in cases where there is a concern about the viability of the pregnancy. Progesterone helps maintain the uterine lining and can be beneficial in preventing miscarriage in some cases. However, it is not a guaranteed solution, and its effectiveness can vary from person to person.
In terms of signs to watch for, if you begin to experience any bleeding, cramping, or other unusual symptoms, it is essential to contact your healthcare provider immediately. They may recommend further evaluation or treatment based on your specific situation.
In summary, while the negative pregnancy tests are concerning, the absence of symptoms like bleeding is a positive sign. The best course of action is to follow up with your healthcare provider for blood tests and an ultrasound to determine the status of your pregnancy. Early pregnancy loss is unfortunately common, and while it can be heartbreaking, many women go on to have successful pregnancies in the future. It’s important to take care of yourself during this time, both physically and emotionally, and to seek support from friends, family, or counseling services if needed.
