Delayed menstruation & whether pregnant?

Doctor, I would like to ask a question.
My last menstrual period started on May 10 and ended on the 15th to 16th.
My menstrual cycle has always been regular, usually around the 10th.
This month, I had unprotected intercourse with my boyfriend on the 8th and 10th, but my period has not arrived yet and is now four days late.
Does this mean I might be pregnant? Also, I have been experiencing a tingling, burning sensation below my bladder after using the restroom.
What could be the cause of this? I would appreciate your help.
Thank you!

Hello: If you have had sexual intercourse and are experiencing menstrual irregularities, and are unsure if you are pregnant, it is advisable to consult a gynecologist.
The doctor will assess your condition and inform you whether there is a possibility of pregnancy and if any follow-up treatment is necessary.
If you are experiencing discomfort during urination, it is important to check for a possible urinary tract infection, and it is recommended to seek medical attention.
Thank you!

When it comes to late periods and pregnancy concerns, there are several important factors to consider. Based on your description, you experienced your last menstrual period (LMP) on May 10 and had unprotected intercourse on the 8th and 10th of the following month. Now, you are four days late for your expected period. This situation raises a few possibilities that we can explore.

Firstly, a late period can indeed be an early sign of pregnancy, especially if your menstrual cycle is typically regular. The timing of your sexual activity is crucial here; since you had intercourse just before your expected ovulation, there is a possibility that sperm could have fertilized an egg, leading to pregnancy. The most reliable way to confirm pregnancy is to take a home pregnancy test (HPT). These tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. For the most accurate results, it is recommended to take the test after your period is at least one week late.

In addition to the possibility of pregnancy, you mentioned experiencing a burning or acidic sensation in your bladder area after urination. This symptom could indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI), which is not uncommon and can occur regardless of whether you are pregnant. UTIs can cause discomfort, frequent urination, and a burning sensation during urination. If you suspect a UTI, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider for appropriate diagnosis and treatment, as untreated UTIs can lead to more severe complications.

If you take a pregnancy test and it is positive, or if you continue to experience symptoms of a UTI, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a blood test to confirm pregnancy and assess your overall health. They can also provide guidance on managing any urinary symptoms you may be experiencing.

In summary, while a late period can indicate pregnancy, it is not the only explanation. The burning sensation you described could suggest a UTI, which requires medical evaluation. Taking a home pregnancy test is a good first step, and if you have any concerns or if your symptoms persist, please reach out to a healthcare professional for further assistance. Remember, early intervention is key to ensuring both your health and the health of a potential pregnancy.
