There is a brown raised lesion on the chest?

Hello, I noticed a lump about 0.5 centimeters in size near the inner side of my left breast areola.
It is not painful or itchy, and its color is similar to that of the areola.
It has been there for a few months but has not changed in size.
What could this be? Thank you.

You may need to schedule an appointment with a breast surgeon for an expert evaluation, and possibly a biopsy, as it is difficult to provide an answer without visual assessment.
I apologize for the inconvenience.

When it comes to a brown growth near the nipple, particularly one that is approximately 0.5 cm in size, non-painful, and has not changed in size over several months, there are several possibilities to consider. While I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis without a physical examination, I can outline some common conditions that may present in this manner.

1. Seborrheic Keratosis: This is a benign skin growth that often appears as a brown, raised lesion. They are common in adults and can vary in size and color. They are usually harmless and do not require treatment unless they become bothersome.

2. Moles (Nevi): A mole can also appear near the nipple area. Moles can be brown or black and are usually benign. However, it is essential to monitor any changes in size, shape, or color, as these could indicate a need for further evaluation.

3. Fibroadenoma: Although more common in the breast tissue, a fibroadenoma is a benign tumor that can feel like a firm, movable lump. They are usually painless and can vary in size. If the growth is firm and mobile, it might be worth discussing with a healthcare provider.

4. Lipoma: This is a benign tumor made of fat tissue that can occur anywhere in the body, including near the breast. Lipomas are usually soft, movable, and painless.

5. Paget's Disease of the Nipple: While less common, this condition can present with changes in the skin of the nipple and surrounding area. It is often associated with underlying breast cancer, so any new or unusual growths should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

6. Intraductal Papilloma: This is a small, benign tumor that forms in the ducts of the breast. It may cause a lump near the nipple and can sometimes lead to discharge.
Given that the growth has been stable and asymptomatic, it may not be urgent; however, it is crucial to have any new or unusual growths evaluated by a healthcare provider, especially in the breast area. A clinical examination, and possibly imaging or a biopsy, may be warranted to rule out any serious conditions.

In summary, while many growths near the nipple can be benign, it is always best to err on the side of caution. Regular self-examinations and awareness of any changes in the breast area are essential for early detection of potential issues. If you have concerns about the growth, I recommend scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They can provide a more accurate diagnosis and discuss any necessary follow-up or treatment options.
