Can I take B vitamins during, in the middle of, or after my menstrual period?
My menstrual cycle has always been regular, and it was supposed to start on September 12.
I felt the usual signs that it was coming, but by September 15, it still hadn't arrived.
That morning, I took a B-complex vitamin (which I hadn't taken before; it was bought for me by a family member), and since then, I've been taking one every morning.
Later that evening, I went for a run and felt some abdominal cramps before exercising, but after I finished running, I felt completely fine.
Then, on September 18, around 4 AM, I suddenly woke up, pressed on my abdomen, and my period started! I'm not sure if it's okay to take B-complex vitamins.
The brand of B-complex I took is Yours-B.

Hello, thank you for your question.
I apologize for the delayed response due to a system notification issue.
Irregularities in the menstrual cycle are usually related to changes in lifestyle, environment, stress, age, and other factors, and are not typically influenced by vitamins unless they contain components of female hormones.
If the symptoms worsen, it is advisable to consult a specialist to check for any other issues.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

More Info
Taking B vitamins during your menstrual cycle is generally considered safe and may even provide some benefits. B vitamins, particularly B6 (pyridoxine), are known to play a role in regulating hormones and may help alleviate some symptoms associated with menstruation, such as mood swings, irritability, and cramps.
The B vitamin complex includes several vitamins, each with its own unique functions. For example, B1 (thiamine) and B2 (riboflavin) are essential for energy metabolism, while B3 (niacin) supports skin health and digestion. B6 is particularly noteworthy for its role in neurotransmitter synthesis, which can influence mood and emotional well-being. B12 (cobalamin) is crucial for red blood cell formation and neurological function.
Regarding your specific situation, it seems that you experienced a delay in your menstrual cycle, which can be influenced by various factors, including stress, changes in routine, or hormonal fluctuations. The introduction of a new supplement like B vitamins could potentially have an impact, but it is unlikely to be the sole reason for a delayed period.
It's important to note that while B vitamins are water-soluble and excess amounts are usually excreted through urine, taking them in excessive amounts can still lead to side effects. For instance, high doses of B6 over extended periods can lead to nerve damage. Therefore, it is essential to adhere to recommended dosages and consult with a healthcare provider if you have concerns about your intake.
In your case, since you mentioned that you started taking the B complex supplement (Yours-B) and subsequently experienced your period, it is unlikely that the supplement caused any adverse effects. The timing of your menstrual cycle can be influenced by many factors, and the introduction of B vitamins may have coincided with the natural onset of your period.
If you are considering continuing the use of B vitamins, it is advisable to monitor how you feel and any changes in your menstrual cycle. If you notice any unusual symptoms or if your cycle continues to be irregular, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare professional. They can provide personalized advice based on your health history and any other medications or supplements you may be taking.
In summary, taking B vitamins during your menstrual cycle is generally safe and may provide benefits. However, it is essential to use them responsibly and be aware of your body's responses. If you have any concerns or experience significant changes, seeking medical advice is always a good practice.
