The foreskin has small spots?
Hello doctor, I usually do DIY and haven't had sexual experience yet.
After retracting the foreskin, I noticed small white, raised bumps on the foreskin, and there are quite a few of them, some even on the blood vessels.
I'm really worried it might be a sexually transmitted infection.
They won't wash away or come out, and they don't hurt or itch.
Will continuous washing help eliminate them? Is this a sexually transmitted infection?

Dr. Wu Yuxin reply Dermatology
Based on the literal description, it is not possible to confirm the condition without actually seeing the lesion.
It is recommended to have a physician evaluate it to determine the next steps.
If necessary, surgery or a biopsy may be required.

More Info
When it comes to small white bumps on the foreskin, there are several potential causes, and it's important to approach this situation with a clear understanding of what these bumps could signify. Based on your description, the bumps are small, numerous, and located on the foreskin, and they do not cause pain or itching. Here are some common explanations for such symptoms:
1. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, white, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are a normal anatomical variation and are not a sign of any disease or infection. Pearly penile papules are often mistaken for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) but are completely benign.
2. Fordyce Spots: These are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis or the scrotum. They are sebaceous glands that are visible through the skin and are also harmless. Fordyce spots are common and do not require treatment.
3. Folliculitis: This condition occurs when hair follicles become inflamed, often due to infection or irritation. It can lead to small red or white bumps that may be tender or itchy. However, if you are not experiencing any pain or discomfort, this may not be the case.
4. Genital Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), genital warts can appear as small, flesh-colored or white bumps. They are typically painless but can sometimes cause itching or discomfort. If you are concerned about the possibility of STIs, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for testing.
5. Other Skin Conditions: Conditions such as eczema or psoriasis can also lead to changes in the skin, including the appearance of bumps. These conditions may require specific treatments.
Given that you mentioned these bumps do not cause any pain or itching, and they wash off easily, it is less likely that they are related to an infection or a sexually transmitted disease. However, it is essential to avoid self-diagnosing and to seek medical advice for a proper evaluation.
Recommendations:
- Consult a Healthcare Provider: It is crucial to see a healthcare professional, such as a dermatologist or urologist, for an accurate diagnosis. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend tests if necessary.
- Avoid Irritation: While it might be tempting to scrub the area, excessive washing can lead to irritation. Gentle cleansing with mild soap and water is usually sufficient.
- Monitor Changes: Keep an eye on the bumps for any changes in size, color, or sensation. If they become painful, start to itch, or if you notice any other symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.
Conclusion:
While the presence of small white bumps on the foreskin can be concerning, many of the common causes are benign and do not require treatment. However, given your concerns about sexually transmitted infections, it is always best to consult a healthcare professional for peace of mind and to rule out any serious conditions. Regular check-ups and open communication with your healthcare provider about any changes in your body are essential for maintaining sexual health.
