Complications of circumcision?

Over a year ago, I had to undergo a circumcision due to pain, and I gradually discovered that I have severe keratinization.
I found a lot of information online stating that keratinization is a normal phenomenon, but I feel that my situation is quite severe.
The color of my glans is a dull gray, and I don't feel any sensation even when pinched or when my nails poke it; it is very insensitive.
My libido is also very low.
What should I do? Are there any solutions? Should I take medication or consider surgery?

Hello, you can apply petroleum jelly locally for maintenance.
Additionally, when cleaning the glans, do not use hot water, soap, or any cleansing lotions.
Just use cold water.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.

Post-circumcision complications can be a source of concern for many individuals, particularly when it comes to sensitivity and overall sexual health. It sounds like you are experiencing significant changes in sensitivity and coloration of the glans (the head of the penis) following your circumcision, which can understandably be distressing.

Firstly, it is important to recognize that some degree of keratinization (the thickening of the outer layer of skin) can occur after circumcision. This is a normal physiological response as the glans, which was previously protected by the foreskin, becomes exposed to the external environment. However, excessive keratinization can lead to a loss of sensitivity, which seems to be what you are experiencing.

The symptoms you describe—such as a grayish coloration of the glans, reduced sensitivity, and low libido—can be attributed to several factors. These may include:
1. Keratinization: As mentioned, this is a common response post-circumcision. While some keratinization is normal, if it is excessive, it can lead to a loss of sensitivity.

2. Nerve Damage: Although circumcision is generally safe, there is a risk of nerve damage during the procedure, which could contribute to decreased sensitivity.

3. Psychological Factors: Changes in sexual function and desire can also be influenced by psychological factors, including anxiety or depression related to the surgery or changes in body image.

4. Hormonal Changes: Low libido can sometimes be linked to hormonal imbalances, which may need to be evaluated by a healthcare provider.

In terms of management, here are some potential approaches:
1. Consultation with a Urologist: It is crucial to discuss your symptoms with a urologist, who can provide a thorough examination and determine the underlying causes of your symptoms. They may perform tests to assess nerve function and sensitivity.

2. Topical Treatments: Some individuals find relief through the use of topical creams or ointments that can help with sensitivity. These may include moisturizers or specific medications that can enhance sensitivity.

3. Physical Therapy: In some cases, pelvic floor physical therapy can help improve sensitivity and sexual function. A trained therapist can provide exercises and techniques to enhance blood flow and nerve sensitivity in the area.

4. Medication: If hormonal imbalances are suspected, your doctor may recommend blood tests to evaluate testosterone levels and other hormones. Depending on the results, hormone replacement therapy or other medications may be suggested.

5. Surgical Options: In cases of severe keratinization or if there is significant concern about nerve damage, surgical options may be considered. This could involve a revision circumcision or other procedures to address the sensitivity issues.

6. Lifestyle Modifications: Engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy diet, and managing stress can also positively impact libido and overall sexual health.

7. Counseling: If psychological factors are contributing to your low libido or anxiety about your condition, speaking with a mental health professional may be beneficial.

In summary, while some degree of keratinization is normal after circumcision, excessive changes leading to significant loss of sensitivity and libido warrant further evaluation. It is essential to consult with a healthcare provider who specializes in urology to explore your symptoms and discuss appropriate treatment options tailored to your specific situation. Remember, you are not alone in this, and there are avenues for support and treatment available to help you regain your sexual health and confidence.
