Can I get pregnant?

Hello doctor, I noticed some discharge with a bit of blood in it the day before yesterday.
The next day, I felt that the bleeding increased, and today the discharge is pink.
I went to see a doctor yesterday, and they said that the ultrasound did not show any enlargement of the uterus.
They prescribed medication for vaginitis and told me to take it and apply it, then return for a follow-up.
However, I am still very worried.
My last menstrual period ended on July 18, and I had intercourse with my boyfriend at the end of June, but I haven't had any sexual relations with him since my period ended.
Is it possible that I could be pregnant?

Hello, if it is confirmed that you had your period from July 28, then you likely were not pregnant in June, as you would not have had a period otherwise.
However, if July 18 was not your period, it is advisable for you to consult a physician to check for pregnancy.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.
Dr.
Chang.

It sounds like you're experiencing a lot of anxiety and uncertainty regarding the possibility of being pregnant, especially given the symptoms you've described. Let's break down your concerns and provide some clarity on the situation.

Firstly, the presence of blood-tinged discharge or pink discharge can be concerning, but it does not automatically indicate pregnancy. This type of discharge can occur for various reasons, including hormonal changes, ovulation, or even irritation from infections such as vaginitis, which your doctor seems to suspect given the prescription for medication. It's important to follow your doctor's advice and complete the treatment for the suspected infection.

Regarding your menstrual cycle, if your last period was on July 18 and you had sexual intercourse at the end of June, it is possible that you could be pregnant, depending on your ovulation cycle. Ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before your next period is due, which means if you have a regular cycle, you might have ovulated around early July. If sperm was present during that time, there is a chance of conception. However, since you mentioned that you have not had intercourse since your last period, the likelihood of pregnancy decreases significantly.

If you are still concerned about the possibility of being pregnant, the best course of action would be to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are quite accurate when taken after a missed period. If the test is positive, you should follow up with your healthcare provider for further evaluation. If it’s negative and your symptoms persist, it’s essential to return to your doctor for further assessment.

It's also worth noting that anxiety about potential pregnancy can exacerbate physical symptoms, such as changes in discharge or abdominal discomfort. This is often referred to as psychosomatic symptoms, where psychological stress manifests as physical symptoms. If you find that your anxiety is overwhelming or affecting your daily life, it may be beneficial to speak with a mental health professional. They can help you develop coping strategies to manage your anxiety and provide support during this uncertain time.

In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy based on your timeline, the symptoms you are experiencing could also be related to other factors, such as hormonal changes or an infection. Taking a home pregnancy test and consulting with your healthcare provider will provide you with more definitive answers. Remember to take care of your mental health as well, as anxiety can significantly impact your overall well-being.
