Post-Circumcision Care: When to See a Doctor After Surgery - Urology

After circumcision

I would like to ask, I just had a circumcision 8 days ago, and I couldn't help but ejaculate.
I noticed that the suture ends are a bit loose (the skin and the sutured area are slightly apart), but there is no bleeding.
Is it necessary to see a doctor again? Also, I would like to know if the slightly yellow, shiny mucus at the wound site is a normal phenomenon.
Thank you.

It is still necessary to return to the urology department for an examination, as it is not possible to assess the condition and treatment based solely on your description.

After undergoing a circumcision, it is essential to monitor the healing process closely to ensure there are no complications. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing some concerns about the healing of your surgical site, particularly after engaging in sexual activity just eight days post-operation.
Firstly, regarding the looseness of the stitches and the slight opening at the incision site without any bleeding: it is not uncommon for stitches to feel loose or for the skin to appear slightly separated as it heals. However, it is crucial to ensure that this does not lead to any complications. If the area is not bleeding and you are not experiencing significant pain, this may not be an immediate cause for alarm. Nonetheless, it is advisable to consult your doctor to assess the situation properly. They can determine if the healing process is proceeding as expected or if any intervention is necessary.

As for the presence of a yellowish, reflective discharge from the wound, this can be a normal part of the healing process. After surgery, it is typical for the body to produce some fluid as part of the healing response. This fluid can sometimes appear yellowish and may contain white blood cells, which are part of the immune response to prevent infection. However, if the discharge has a foul odor, is accompanied by increased redness, swelling, or pain, or if you develop a fever, these could be signs of infection, and you should seek medical attention promptly.

In summary, while some degree of discharge and slight loosening of stitches can be normal, it is always better to err on the side of caution. Given that you are only eight days post-surgery, it is advisable to contact your healthcare provider to discuss your symptoms. They may recommend a follow-up appointment to evaluate the surgical site and ensure that everything is healing correctly.
Additionally, it is essential to follow post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon, which typically include avoiding strenuous activities, sexual intercourse, and ensuring the area remains clean and dry. If you have any further questions or concerns about your recovery, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for personalized advice and reassurance. Your health and well-being are paramount, and open communication with your medical team is key to a smooth recovery.
