My testicles?
I noticed a hard lump on my testicle a few days ago, and there is a round mass on the left testicle with some tissue next to it.
I'm really scared that it might be testicular cancer.
Also, I feel like my testicle has shrunk when I wake up in the morning.
Why is that?

More Info
Testicular health is a crucial aspect of male reproductive health, and any changes in size, shape, or texture of the testicles can be concerning. In your case, you mentioned that you recently noticed hardness in your testicle, along with a round lump and a piece of tissue nearby. You also expressed concern about testicular cancer and noted that your testicles feel smaller in the morning.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that the testicles can undergo various changes due to a range of factors, including hormonal fluctuations, temperature changes, and even physical activity. The feeling of hardness or the presence of a lump can be alarming, but it is essential to approach this situation with a clear understanding of what might be happening.
1. Lumps and Hardness: The presence of a lump on the testicle can be due to several conditions. Some common causes include:
- Epididymal Cysts: These are fluid-filled sacs that can develop on the epididymis (the tube that stores sperm) and may feel like a lump.
- Varicocele: This is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, which can sometimes feel like a lump and may cause discomfort.
- Testicular Tumors: While less common, a lump can also indicate a testicular tumor, which can be benign or malignant (cancerous). Testicular cancer is most common in younger men, and early detection is crucial for effective treatment.
2. Size Changes: It is not unusual for testicles to feel smaller at different times of the day. Factors such as temperature, arousal, and even anxiety can cause the testicles to retract or appear smaller. However, if you consistently notice a significant change in size or if the feeling of hardness persists, it is essential to seek medical advice.
3. Symptoms to Monitor: In addition to the hardness and lump, pay attention to any other symptoms that may arise, such as:
- Pain or discomfort in the testicle or scrotum
- Swelling or changes in the skin of the scrotum
- Changes in sexual function or fertility
4. When to See a Doctor: It is advisable to consult a healthcare professional if you notice any of the following:
- Persistent hardness or a lump that does not go away
- Pain or discomfort that worsens over time
- Any significant changes in size or shape of the testicles
- Accompanying symptoms such as fever, nausea, or changes in urination
In conclusion, while the changes you are experiencing can be concerning, they are not necessarily indicative of cancer. However, given the potential seriousness of testicular conditions, it is crucial to have a thorough evaluation by a healthcare provider. They may perform a physical examination and possibly an ultrasound to assess the situation accurately. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to managing any testicular health issues effectively. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
