Asexuality/Erectile Dysfunction
Hello Doctor, I am 32 years old and have been dealing with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and gastritis for a long time.
I resumed medication in May of this year.
Recently, I suddenly noticed a significant decrease in my libido (even watching adult films does not arouse me), and I am experiencing erectile difficulties.
Even when using a condom to stimulate an erection, it is not as firm as it used to be, and I have no desire to continue.
This is a stark contrast to my previous experiences where I easily felt sexual desire.
I checked the medications I am currently taking for my stomach issues, which are Lanpo capsules, Mozapride, and Sulpiride tablets, and I am wondering if they could be related to these changes.
Thank you for your response.

Theoretically, due to the low probability of drug effects, taking Sulpiride may potentially lead to excessive secretion of prolactin, and blood tests could be considered for evaluation.

Low libido and erectile dysfunction (ED) can be complex issues influenced by a variety of factors, including psychological, physiological, and medication-related causes. In your case, it seems that you are experiencing a sudden decrease in sexual desire and difficulty achieving an erection, which can understandably be concerning.
Firstly, it is essential to consider the potential impact of the medications you are currently taking for your gastrointestinal issues. The medications you mentioned—Lanpo (a proton pump inhibitor), Mozapry (an atypical antipsychotic), and Sulpiride (an antipsychotic)—can indeed have side effects that may contribute to sexual dysfunction. For instance, Sulpiride and Mozapry are known to potentially cause sexual side effects, including decreased libido and erectile difficulties, due to their effects on neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly dopamine. Dopamine plays a crucial role in sexual arousal and function, and any disruption in its levels can lead to diminished sexual desire and performance.
In addition to medication effects, psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, or depression can also significantly impact libido and erectile function. Given that you have a history of gastrointestinal issues, it’s possible that the stress related to managing your health could be contributing to your current symptoms. Psychological factors can often exacerbate physical issues, creating a cycle that can be challenging to break.
It is also worth noting that lifestyle factors, such as diet, exercise, and sleep, can influence sexual health. Poor diet, lack of physical activity, and inadequate sleep can all contribute to decreased libido and erectile dysfunction. If you have made any recent changes in these areas, it may be worth considering how they could be affecting your sexual health.
Given your symptoms and the potential role of your medications, it is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider. They can evaluate your current medication regimen and determine if any adjustments are necessary. It may also be beneficial to discuss your symptoms with a urologist or a sexual health specialist, who can provide a more comprehensive assessment and explore other potential underlying causes.
In the meantime, consider implementing some lifestyle changes that may help improve your sexual health. Regular exercise, a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and adequate sleep can all contribute positively to libido and erectile function. Additionally, managing stress through relaxation techniques, such as mindfulness, meditation, or yoga, may also be beneficial.
In summary, your sudden decrease in libido and erectile dysfunction could be related to the medications you are taking, psychological factors, or lifestyle changes. It is essential to have an open discussion with your healthcare provider to explore these issues further and develop a plan that addresses your concerns. Remember, sexual health is an important aspect of overall well-being, and seeking help is a positive step toward improvement.
