Menstrual induction medication and pregnancy?

Doctor, I apologize: My period usually arrives at the end of the month, but last month I took a menstrual induction medication, so my period came on the 16th.
However, I had sexual intercourse with ejaculation twice on August 9th.
What is the likelihood of pregnancy? Will my period this month come on the 16th or at the end of the month (since I only took the menstrual induction medication once)?

Ms. Hsieh, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2015/08/13

1.
After taking menstrual induction medication, the next cycle may be affected, leading to anovulation, which makes it more difficult to conceive.

2.
If ovulation is disrupted this month, menstruation will typically be delayed.

Respectfully, Dr.

Menstrual induction pills, often referred to as menstrual regulators or hormonal medications, can indeed have an impact on your menstrual cycle and potentially affect your chances of becoming pregnant. These medications are typically used to induce menstruation in individuals who may have irregular cycles or who are experiencing amenorrhea (the absence of menstruation).
When you take menstrual induction pills, they work by altering the hormonal balance in your body, primarily affecting estrogen and progesterone levels. This can lead to a more predictable menstrual cycle, but it can also create some uncertainty regarding ovulation and the timing of your next period.
In your case, since you took the induction medication last month and then had your period on the 16th, it is possible that this could have affected your cycle. If your menstrual cycle is usually around the end of the month, the use of the induction pills may have shifted your cycle earlier. However, since you mentioned that you typically have a cycle that lasts until the end of the month, it is also possible that your cycle could return to its usual timing after just one use of the medication.

Regarding the chances of pregnancy, if you had unprotected intercourse on August 9th, the likelihood of conception depends on whether you were ovulating at that time. Ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before your next expected period. If your cycle is around 28 days, ovulation would likely occur around the 14th day of your cycle, which would be around the end of the month. However, if the menstrual induction pills altered your cycle, it could potentially change the timing of ovulation.

If you had your period on the 16th of last month and had unprotected sex on the 9th of this month, it is important to consider that sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days. Therefore, if you ovulated shortly after the 9th, there is a possibility of pregnancy. However, if your cycle returns to its regular pattern, your next period could still be expected around the end of the month.

In summary, while menstrual induction pills can affect your cycle, the chances of pregnancy depend on the timing of ovulation in relation to your sexual activity. If you are concerned about the possibility of being pregnant, it may be a good idea to take a pregnancy test if your period does not arrive as expected. Additionally, if you have ongoing concerns about your menstrual cycle or fertility, consulting with a healthcare provider can provide personalized guidance and support.
