Taking Nordron S.C. Tab?

Hello Dr.
Chang,
I took Nordron S.C.
Tab for 10 days starting from August 18, as I needed to travel abroad in mid-September (my period started on August 16).
I would like to inquire if I can conceive normally after my next menstrual cycle following the completion of the medication.
I found online that Nordron is not recommended during pregnancy, so I am concerned about whether this medication could have any adverse effects on a future child if I plan to become pregnant.
Thank you!

abby, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2015/08/19

Dr. Zhang Kunmin reply Obstetrics and Gynecology

Hello, the questioner: Nodron is a type of progesterone commonly used for regulating menstrual cycles, inducing menstruation, or delaying menstruation.
Based on your description, the medication taken at that time has already been metabolized and eliminated, so it will not affect your plans.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health, Dr.
Zhang.

More Info

When considering the use of Nordron S.C. Tab, which contains the hormone progestin, it's important to understand its effects on the menstrual cycle and potential implications for conception. Nordron is often prescribed to regulate menstrual cycles, induce menstruation, or manage other hormonal imbalances.
Based on the information provided, you took Nordron S.C. Tab starting from August 18, following the onset of your menstrual period on August 16. After completing the medication, you are concerned about your ability to conceive and any potential risks to a future pregnancy.

Firstly, it is essential to note that Nordron, being a progestin, works by mimicking the effects of natural progesterone in the body. This can help in regulating the menstrual cycle, but it does not have a long-term impact on fertility once the medication is discontinued. The hormone is metabolized and eliminated from the body relatively quickly after stopping the medication. Therefore, after your next menstrual cycle following the completion of Nordron, you should be able to conceive normally.

Regarding your concerns about the safety of Nordron during pregnancy, it is indeed true that progestins are generally not recommended during pregnancy unless specifically indicated. This is primarily due to the potential for hormonal imbalances that could affect fetal development. However, if you have taken the medication as prescribed and it has been metabolized out of your system before conception, it should not pose a risk to a future pregnancy.

It is also important to consider that many women use hormonal medications like Nordron for various reasons, and the effects on fertility can vary based on individual health conditions and the reasons for taking the medication. If you are planning to conceive, it is advisable to wait for at least one full menstrual cycle after stopping the medication to allow your body to return to its natural hormonal rhythm. This can also help in tracking ovulation more accurately, which is beneficial for conception.

If you have any underlying health conditions or concerns about your reproductive health, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider or a fertility specialist. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and help you understand the best practices for preparing for pregnancy.

In summary, after taking Nordron S.C. Tab, you should be able to conceive normally after your next menstrual cycle. The medication does not have lasting effects on fertility, and as long as it has been cleared from your system, it should not pose risks to a future pregnancy. Always consult with a healthcare professional for tailored advice and to address any specific concerns you may have about your reproductive health.
