Various issues (semen color, consistency, secretions)
Hello Doctor: I am 20 years old and have the following questions:
1.
Seminal Fluid Color: Normal semen is mostly whitish in color.
I experienced this during middle school, but starting from high school, the color of my semen has changed to "transparent with a slight yellow tint," and it has remained this way for several years.
Even after a period of abstinence, it does not return to white.
Is this condition normal? Additionally, why is normal semen predominantly white, and what are the causes (which gland or component is responsible)?
2.
Erection Hardness: During erections, my firmness is not as strong or enduring as it was during middle school, and I also notice that I am not as sensitive.
I become erect with stimulation, but I am concerned about the hardness.
Could this indicate an issue with some part of my body?
3.
Pre-ejaculatory Fluid: It seems that most people have a pre-ejaculatory fluid that is transparent with a slight yellow tint, and some individuals have a considerable amount.
However, I have almost none.
What is this fluid, and is my situation problematic?
P.S.
I follow an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet.
Considering the above issues, can my diet improve my condition? I sincerely ask for your patience in answering these questions to alleviate my long-standing concerns.
Thank you very much!

Hello,
1.
The color of semen can range from clear, slightly white, milky white, to even yellow, and all of these are quite common normal colors.
It is not possible to determine its quality based solely on appearance, unless there are significant colors present, such as red, black, brown, green, or blue.
2.
Hardness needs to be measured with professional instruments for a more objective assessment.
3.
Most of the fluid is a lubricant, and some may contain sperm.
The quantity of the secretion is related to the intensity and method of stimulation.
4.
For dietary concerns, it is advisable to consult a nutritionist.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.

Understanding the characteristics of semen, including its color, consistency, and the presence of pre-ejaculatory fluid, is important for assessing male reproductive health. Let's address your questions one by one.
1. Semen Color: It is normal for semen to typically appear as a whitish or milky fluid. The color can vary due to several factors, including hydration levels, diet, and the presence of certain substances. The whitish color is primarily due to the presence of sperm and seminal fluid produced by the seminal vesicles and prostate gland. If your semen has changed to a "transparent slightly yellow" color, it may not necessarily indicate a problem, especially if this has been consistent over the years. Factors such as hydration, diet, and even the frequency of ejaculation can influence semen color. For instance, dehydration can lead to a more concentrated and yellowish appearance. If you are concerned about this change, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
2. Erection Hardness: The firmness of an erection can be influenced by various factors, including age, hormonal levels, psychological state, and overall health. It is not uncommon for young men to experience variations in erection quality over time. Factors such as stress, anxiety, fatigue, and even lifestyle choices (like diet and exercise) can impact erectile function. If you notice a significant change in your ability to achieve or maintain an erection, it may be worth discussing with a healthcare provider. They can assess for any underlying conditions, such as hormonal imbalances or vascular issues, that might be contributing to this change.
3. Pre-Ejaculatory Fluid: The clear fluid that is released before ejaculation is known as pre-ejaculatory fluid or pre-cum, produced by the Cowper's glands (bulbourethral glands). This fluid serves to lubricate the urethra and neutralize any acidity in the urethra from urine, creating a more favorable environment for sperm. The amount of pre-ejaculatory fluid can vary significantly among individuals. Some men may produce a noticeable amount, while others may produce very little or none at all. A lower volume of pre-ejaculatory fluid is not necessarily a cause for concern unless accompanied by other symptoms, such as pain or discomfort.
Regarding your dietary habits, being a lacto-vegetarian (consuming dairy and eggs) can provide essential nutrients that support reproductive health, such as proteins, vitamins, and minerals. However, if you have specific concerns about your sexual health or reproductive function, consider incorporating foods rich in zinc (like dairy, nuts, and seeds), omega-3 fatty acids (found in flaxseeds and walnuts), and antioxidants (fruits and vegetables) into your diet. These nutrients can play a role in hormone production and overall reproductive health.
In summary, while variations in semen color, erection quality, and pre-ejaculatory fluid volume can be normal, any significant changes or concerns should be discussed with a healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice and conduct any necessary tests to ensure your reproductive health is in good standing. Remember, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing stress, and having regular check-ups can contribute positively to your sexual health.
